The Best and Worst of Marvel's Phase 4

TV and Movies

Phase 4 of the MCU brought in many mixed reviews, it also brought out a lot of hate, sexism and racism in the fandom. Phase 4 was a rebuilding phase, think of it like phase 1. They had to introduce a lot of things so that they could continue with the stories that they started to set up in previous phases. There were a few not good projects that came out of phase 4 but the reality is that most of it was brilliant and there aren’t valid criticisms of it that don’t also apply to the first three phases of the MCU.

BEST

Wakanda Forever:

This was not only the best Marvel movie of the year but it was one of the best movies of the year. It didn’t feel like a Marvel movie, I suppose that's why a lot of butthurt fanboys didn’t like it. But I think that was why it was so incredible. It was a story about grief and finding oneself after loss, that also happened to be about superheroes. Wakanda Forever also had incredible themes of preservation and protecting one's legacy and people and it is most definitely the most important movie Marvel has ever made.

Black Widow:

I’m going to get grief for this but I don’t care. Black Widow in the context of the MCU was in fact bad, they treated Natasha’s character like crap from beginning to end and this movie didn’t change that. But as a film it was a beautiful and heartbreaking commentary on human trafficking and told the story of strength and sisterhood and it was a milestone for women and the film industry and not a single unwashed boy who can’t name 3 comics Nat was ever in gets to say otherwise.

Spider-Man No Way Home:

I’m gonna be honest when it came out that Toby and Andrew were going to be in this movie I was very nervous. I really didn’t have faith that Marvel would resist the urge to profit off of nostalgia enough to make it still feel like Tom’s story, but I was wrong. The way that they balanced the other two Spider-Men with Tom’s was nothing short of brilliant. It allowed Tom’s character to grow as well as giving closer to the other two. It was beautiful and was so wonderfully written that the MCU gave themselves the opportunity to close Tom’s story out with it or use it as a jumping off point for the next phase of his journey and either way it was set up well.

TV:

WandaVision , Ms. Marvel , She-Hulk , Falcon and the Winter Soldier

WORST

Eternals:

So this had the potential to be incredible, epic even. This film had some of the most stunning visuals that the MCU has ever produced. But the lack of structure didn’t just weaken the story, it killed it. Due to completely incoherent storytelling this film just flopped. Had they done all of the flashback scenes and set up in a mini series first and then taken the main plot to the big screen, it would have worked. Instead they bit off more than they could chew and we all suffered for it.

DOCTOR STRANGE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS:

I’m not going to say anything about this other than Michael Waldron should never be allowed to write again…not just for the MCU but for anyone….ever.

TV

Loki

MEDIOCRE (But definitely re-watchable)

Thor Love and Thunder

TV

Hawkeye , Moon Knight , Shang-Chi

Overall Marvel’s 4th phase had more incredible projects then terrible ones and more watchable projects then bad. But the internet loves to complain and I am sure that people will disagree with my assessments and that's okay, objectively wrong but okay. I look forward to phase 5 and what the future of the MCU holds.
