Disney and Technology

Technology is all around us and is increasingly becoming more and more of a staple in our culture. We use it everyday, so it's no surprise that businesses are now thriving by utilizing these new technologies and techniques that keep them relevant in today's world. One company in particular that has really stepped up their game when it comes to technology use is the one and only Walt Disney World. Disney has managed to take technology and use it as an advantage for them and have been thriving ever since. Five ways that Disney has utilized technology to help with business and network performance is through the convenient all in one magic bands, mobile ordering systems, online fast passes, reservations, new innovative ride designs, and their ability to know every guest by name and view previous history.

The Introduction of the Magic Bands

Magic bands are probably one of the first and most important steps that Disney took when starting to use technology as a way to boost business. The magic band is unique because not only does it allow access to the parks without needing any tickets or additional information, but they are also used as room key access, and a link to your credit card as well, so all purchases can be made through the magic band without needing to bring even a wallet to the park. The technology used in these magic bands is extremely high tech and makes the Disney-going experience 100 times better than it was without them.

Mobile Ordering Systems

Mobile ordering systems were introduced to Disney in May 2017. These ordering systems allowed park-goers to order food online prior to picking it up, making life easier for both the patron and the parks. Not only has the online ordering system been a huge hit, but the platform has also been used for ordering at the time of service within the quick service restaurants. You can simply place your order on the screen and while you wait in line, your order is already being processed. This is just another example of how technology has really made Disney World a force to be reckoned with.

Fast Passes and Reservations

Anyone who has been to Disney knows that fast passes and online reservations are a must if you truly want to enjoy your experience. The technology used to book reservations has expanded to their ability to process fast passes as well. Patrons are able to go online 180 days prior to their vacation and book both restaurant reservations as well as fast passes for all of their favorite rides and events.

Ride Designs and Features

Disney World is known for their innovation and unique park rides and features. None of these unique features, however, would be available without current use of technology. Disney has utilized fun and interactive AI technology to incorporate into their rides, shows, and events, making them lifelike and truly an amazing experience for children and adults alike.

Everybody Knows Your Name

With the help of the magic band, Disney has found a way to know and recognize every single guest by name and where they come from. As you walk through the park, you might see your name pop up randomly at various different times which is a technology that is far beyond it's years. Not only can Disney know who you are and where in the parks you are at at any given moment, but they also can use record-keeping data on each individual customer and remember preferences and decisions that they made the last time they visited.

With new found technology and the use of innovative designs and techniques, Disney doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Technology will continue to grow, and I foresee Disney growing with it, making it really live up to it's name, the happiest place on earth!
