The Client
The Client delivered in 1994 is a lawful spine-chiller composed by American creator John Grisham. The film (and the book) was set for the most part in Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a blend of different lawful components and anticipation with an emphasis on the observer.

The Black Arrow
The film's initial scene, "V for Vendetta," assumes the roads of London and portrays Evey being bugged by state hooligans for being out after the time limit. It is now that the crowd is acquainted with the legend V, who saves the day. I realize this film depended on a realistic novel written during the 1980s. However, the initial scene helped me remember the initial stage in Vin Suprynowicz's book, The Black Arrow.

Classic Movie Review: 'Hester Street' Starring Carol Kane
For those who might only know actress Carol Kane from her work on television in the series Taxi or, far more recently, the Netflix comedy, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, you might not be aware that Carol Kane is an Oscar nominee. In 1975, Kane co-starred in the movie Hester Street and her thoughtful, sweet and vulnerable performance as Jewish mother arriving in America at the turn of the 20th Century earned her a nomination for Best Actress. Kane lost out to Louise Fletcher’s daringly dastardly performance as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

The Tomorrow War (2021)
The cinematography and lighting in this film are par for the course as far as Sci-Fi movies go. There weren’t any shots that I thought stood out, but there weren’t any that were poorly framed. You can see all the characters in their environments, and there is an interesting palette change between the present and the future. The future is more saturated, carrying shades of orange and red, likely reflecting the dystopian and fire nature of the setting. The present is desaturated, coloured with shades of gray and blue. After the climax has concluded the present starts having warmer hues and brighter colours, likely referring to the future now seeming brighter.

Secret Window (2004)
This film was one of my high-school favourites, having seen it for the first time in early 2006. I love Johnny Depp, I love mystery about killers, and I think (even though I hadn’t quite realized it yet) I also found the lead character very relatable because he was a writer and I was a writer. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen this movie for close to a decade. While delving more into the film world and becoming a screenwriter and film critic, I heard a few other critics say that they don’t like this movie, particularly the ending, which I found odd considering I had read the novella and preferred the film’s ending to it. Having been so in love with it since High School, but having come so far as an artist since then, I wanted to re-visit this film and see if it held up since the time I had last seen it.

The Artist (2012)
For years, I’ve been making references to the majestic quality of this homage to the films of yore. I’ve often thought that it was as perfect a movie as could be made and even consider it one of my favourite films of all time. Technically, even though it was a project for my Film Studies class, it was the first movie that I ever reviewed from a critical perspective. This movie means so much to me that I consider it odd that I haven’t watched the film in about seven years or so. Since I’ve grown as a screenwriter, critic, and filmmaker since then, I figured it was time to revisit this film and see if I still enjoyed it now as much as I did then.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut
The series has grown into one of the greatest critical satires and parodies of all aspects of modern life: from political to socio-political issues, as well as media and technology, usually using offensive humour and common sense to get their point across. Their first (and only) theatrically released feature film, South Park: Insert Phallic Joke Here, does all of this wonderfully while parodying and satirizing many things, including Return of the Jedi, Les Miserables, ER (including a cameo from George Clooney),Windows 98, War, USO shows, just to name a few things.

It: Chapter Two (2019)
After the first film came out, I was laughing more than I was screaming; I genuinely though the movie was terrible because, in a darkened theatre, I wasn’t scared. Over time, I grew to love the film for it’s interactions between the characters, but it still didn’t change the lack of terror I felt for the clown. I remember the miniseries being very boring all together, but especially boring when the adults came around. So, I was expecting a very boring movie about adults trying to kill a demon clown and pretending to be afraid of it when I wasn’t. I was mainly going to see it because I had seen the first one, and the fiancé wanted to go. To my surprise, I got a film that I enjoyed much more than I was expecting.

Movie Review: 'Last Night in Rozzie'
Last Night in Rozzie is a complicated story about relationships. From friendships to marriages to parent and child relationships, Last Night in Rozzie has a lot of different types of relationship dramas to navigate around. The film stars Neil Brown Jr as Ronnie Russo, a kid from Rozzie, a suburb of Boston, real name Roslindale. Ronnie Russo is a rare Rozzie success story in that he made it out of the lower middle class suburb and made something of himself in the big city.

Friday the 13th (1980)
While these movies might not be considered critical darlings, there’s no denying the legacy of horror that the iconic Jason Voorhees has left in his wake. Like most popular icons, there have been films, television shows, video games, toys, props, comics, and crossovers done with the legend. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 41 years, you’d know that the franchise didn’t really begin with him and Producer/Director Sean S. Cunningham didn’t intend for this franchise to be as popular as it was or go in the direction that it did.

It (2017)
First things first: I understand that Coulrophobia is a legitimate thing, and people like John Wayne Gacy didn’t help, and there was that whole clown thing in the news a couple of years ago, and a LOT of people were afraid of clowns because of Tim Curry’s performance in the 1990 miniseries. And, to be fair, Bill Skarsgard is creepy in a lot of the movie and there are some genuine scenes where he’s legitimately frightening. Having said all of that, though, I understand why Pennywise takes the form of a clown: he’s a joke.

Cruella (2021)
I’ve never really been a fan of the 1961 animated adaptation of 101 Dalmatians, and missed the 1996 live-action remake (starring Glenn Close). However, even someone with as little interest in the material as I had knows the menacing spectre of Cruella De Vil. With her skeletal form, white fur coat, black dress, cigarette, and signature black and white hair, she has such a commanding presence. And of course, there’s her theme song. Yes, Cruella is certainly one the most iconic Disney villains and one of the scariest.
