'Sweet Magnolias' is an empowering series.

What’s on the table for tonight’s Margarita night? Give me the gossip.

Released to Netflix in 2020, Sweet Magnolias focuses on the friendship between three women. Living in a town in South Carolina, each are going through their dilemmas struggling with love, family, and careers.

Sweet Magnolias is an empowering series. Focusing on a beautiful friendship that has not been seen in media for a while, I could not wait to watch each episode. I was downtrodden when it was time for the final episode. Life may not go as planned, but with friendship, and a little margarita, we can face any challenge life hands us.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headly do an exceptional job. They did tremendous work developing a meaningful friendship. I loved when they got together for their girl’s nights. They prepared some tasty snacks. Their friendship is a great example to all audiences about how friendship impacts your life.

Each actress delivered a bold performance, channeling tough emotions at times. Swisher was a standout. I was very impressed with her growth as an actress upon seeing her from the sitcom, Reba. The trio successfully delved into a strong message about women’s empowerment.

Not the only focus of the series, there are other notable subplots. Adulthood and the teenage years are given the focus they need. Parents and their kids won’t always see eye to eye, but in the end, family is forever. Elliott and Anneliese Judge did a wonderful job in their mother-daughter dynamic.

I enjoyed performances by Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Logan Allen, and Bianca Berry Tarantino. Shoutout goes to Allen. The show highlighted Kyle’s love for theater. I also give credit to creators for staging an outstanding play version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. They took it seriously and studied the purpose of the language.

One role that I never expected to become fond of was Bill (Chris Klien). He has made mistakes and is not the most open person. The development of his character showcases that change is real. Klein was excellent in one unexpected emotional sequence.

Jamie Lynn Spears returns to her first acting role after a twelve-year gap from her work on Zoey 101. Spears managed to connect with the journey of her character. She was wonderful. Noreen was one of my favorite characters in the show. She teaches women a lesson to always stand up for themselves.

Sweet Magnolias deals with several relatable themes. Love, family, careers, and finding yourself. Love is a recurring theme in the series. But most importantly, change. It’s up to you to drive your pathway. Giving up and letting yourself fall into the shadows of people’s harsh words or doings is never the answer.

A shoutout goes to Cameron Dale for designing the most gorgeous-looking fashion. I loved the outfits that the women wore. They looked natural. Now I want to go shopping for some of the clothing items that they wore. Everything was stunning. Even the hair and makeup.

Sheryl J. Anderson connected to audiences. Her focus on this friendship was exceptional. Anderson wrote a story about life. It’s messy, and you don’t always know what to expect. Most importantly, people can change if they are willing to. Change is possible.

Women’s roles have changed substantially over the years. This is a show about women. They are driven, assertive, and are okay with emoting. Women can be anything that they want to be.

Go watch Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. I am waiting on the edge of my seat for season 2 to come out, especially after the startling ending we got.
