The End Is Nigh!

This October, the CW will air the 15th and final season of the hit show Supernatural. For many, the news was devastating, but considering not many shows reach a 5th season, never mind a 15th, it was inevitable that it would end eventually.

Supernatural began in 2005, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, as two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, who drive across the country hunting ghosts, vampires, and demons so they can kill them. You know—the family business. Hailed as the new X Files when it started, the not so well known actors had a battle ahead of them to make the show a hit. Despite the talented and gorgeous leads, no one could have imagined that the show would still be on today.

They have faced many big bads—Princes of Hell, Lucifer, angry angels and even God himself! How many shows can say that? While it became harder to find a worse big bad year after year, the final battles are always epic. When the finale airs and the familiar notes of "Carry On My Wayward Son" starts to play, there will be tears. Believe me!

While some people may claim that the show jumped the shark a while ago, the performances have never suffered and the show loves to make fun of itself, including an episode where the actors break the fourth wall. They like to share hilarious behind the scenes photos too, especially Misha Collins (Castiel) who is a huge prankster.

One of the biggest appeals of the show is the message behind it. Family is everything. The boys have done the impossible for each other, including going to hell and back, literally. One of the more famous quotes from the show is "Family doesn't end with blood," meaning we make our own family in this world and no family is bigger than the SPN family!

Along the way, the Winchesters have expanded their family of hunters and made new friends, but given the nature of their job, loss is something they face frequently. They lost their mother as children, their father, their surrogate father and many others over the show's run. But this is Supernatural. No one stays dead for long! It has become a running joke within the show and more old faces will be popping up in the final season.

The actors have a rare opportunity in that they are going out on their own terms. They are ending the show as opposed to having it cancelled, few shows can claim that. It speaks of their popularity, as Supernatural could have easily continued on for several more years, if the fans had their say.

Over the years, Jensen and Jared have grown up, they've married, (Jared met his wife, Genevieve, on the show) had three kids each and become best friends. They have proven themselves to be friendly, caring people who love their fans. They fly all over the world for conventions, even when it takes them far from home.

They will truly be missed, as will the show. But at least we have one more season to keep us entertained. Jake Abel, the boys' younger brother Adam, will be returning as hopefully he will finally be released from Hell! He was left there back in Season 5 and we haven't seen him since. Rumor has it that Mark Sheppard (Crowley) and possibly Jeffery Dean Morgan will be returning too! Fingers crossed.

It remains to be seen whether the boys will survive the final battle, but we can hope. One thing is for sure, Supernatural will stay with us forever.
