OUT OF BALANCE, OUT OF TIME!!!

KEEVE TRENNIS and bond-twin TEREC have defected to the villainous NIHIL. With AVAR KRISS and her former master closing in, Keeve must make a terrible choice. Can she take an innocent life to secure her place within the TEMPEST? A turning point is reached in the lives of THE JEDI OF STARLIGHT BEACON. The shadow of the Nihil has never loomed larger!

I think I really like this series because it does focus on characters that I’ve never heard of before and that Cavan has really given me the chance to get to know. It is why I loved Dark Times so much. Being a casual Star Wars fan means I am not up to snuff on all the characters and the mythology that comes with certain aspects and this series really does allow me to feel like I am exploring things in a way that feels fresh, new and exciting. This makes me excited to see what the Universe has to offer and this issue in particular brings plenty of those surprise moments that really shake up the status quo in ways we aren’t expecting to see.

I am loving the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter really does help to bring their personalities to the forefront. The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more the story we are drawn into this in ways that leave us gasping for breath.

I greatly appreciate the way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen. The layers here open up some incredible new avenues to be explored all while we’re exploring those already opened. The amount of depth, dimension and complexity this brings to the story is immeasurable. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved exceptionally well.

The interior artwork is really rather nice. The creativity and imagination that we see throughout the book is beautifully demonstrated. The species we see is a perfect example of this and with the Galaxy so full of different races this is gorgeously rendered. The linework is fantastic and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the detail within the work that we see is rendered exceedingly well. The way that we see backgrounds being utilised could be stronger but they do enhance and expand how we see the moments. How they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is wonderfully handled. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work really showcases a beautiful eye for how colour works and how to maximise their effects.

If you are like me and enjoy the Star Wars Universe but aren’t as knowledgeable as others this is a perfect series to get involved in and experience what there is to offer. This will easily get you excited about what the Galaxy is and about so and help you understand the past that leads into the future as we know it to be. Cavan writes a sensational story with terrific characterisation and the interiors are superbly rendered which makes this is a consistently strong read.
