Sony's Playstation showcase took place this week, and whilst the announcement of a Knights of the Old Republic remake for Playstation 5 was probably the biggest news of the night, it was not the only big announcement. Marvel have also thrown their hat in the ring by announcing a highly anticipated sequel to their very successful Spider-Man game, as well as a game focusing on everyone's favorite mutant, Wolverine, too.

Marvel's Spider-Man came out back in 2018 and was extremely popular upon release. The game had hours of awesome gameplay and a fantastic story to boot. Players got to take control of their favorite wall-crawler and faced some of the characters biggest adversaries. The graphics were absolutely spot on and the ability to change suits as the game progressed was an absolutely brilliant feature. It even introduced Miles Morales and allowed you to play as him at certain points before he would go on to pick up the Spider-Man mantle in his own game.

Games focusing on Spider-Man have always done well in the past, for the most part, and I was always a huge fan of the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game, but this 2018 game was just so different and felt very special. I would spend hours playing the game, mostly doing side-quests and trying to achieve all the upgrades or even just swinging through the streets of New York, but the actual story mode itself was spectacular. For those who have completed it, it was also very emotional and it finished on quite the cliff-hanger. A technical sequel was released, focusing on Miles, but many fans wanted a sequel to address the events of the first game, and now it seems we are going to get it. Not only that, but it looks like Venom will also be making an appearance within the game, confirmed to be voiced by the legendary Tony Todd (the Candyman himself). The game promises to continue the story of the first game.

Now, this sequel was a no-brainer, but a very welcome surprise comes in the form of the Wolverine game announcement. Wolverine is one Marvel's most popular characters, and I'm sure may fans would happily fork out money for a game focusing on him. The X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game did pretty well and has quite a following, but it didn't really do him any justice due to it being based on the rather disappointing movie, so hopefully this game will serve to change that and give him the spotlight he deserves. It's at least been promised it will, so time will tell. In the meantime, you can check out the teaser trailer for it below:

Not much is known about the actual plot at this stage, which makes sense considering it's just been announced, but we know it will be a standalone game directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian. This should fill fans with a lot of hope considering they were they creative team also behind the Miles Morales game.

As with any game, only time will tell if it lives up to hype and delivers for fans, but as it's only in very early development, we still have a while to wait. Hopefully, the time is used wisely to make it the very best it can be. (It could also lead to a very successful new series of games if handled correctly.)

Are you excited for a Spider-Man sequel and Wolverine game? Be sure to let us know and, as always, we will keep you updated with any new developments as and when they happen.

Until next time!
