Spice Up Your Life: 'Rick And Morty' Brings Back 'Mulan' With Saucy McDonald's Petition

There is one thing I really miss about the '90s, the #McDonalds Happy Meal, chowing down on a box full of MSG, eating those ground-up chicken feet and playing with your choking hazard Mulan toy. While it may all sound like a million years ago, #RickandMorty brought the memories flooding back.

Adult Swim suitably punk'd its fans, launching the Season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty on the most unlikely day of the year: April 1. While fans of the show streamed in their droves to watch the episode before it was removed, we finally got some payoff to the show's huge cliffhanger ending from back in 2015.

While Rick's escape from a Galactic Federation prison may seem like the major talking point of the latest episode, it played second fiddle to McDonald's Szechuan Teriyaki dipping sauce — no, really. The forgotten condiment now finds itself trending on Twitter and fans are already petitioning the food conglomerate to bring back their infamous sauce.

Mu gotta be kidding me.

Forget the live action #Mulan, the #cartoon version of #Disney's Chinese adventure started trending some 19 years after its release for a wholly different reason. Appearing in its own fast food campaign alongside the film in 1998, the Szechuan sauce really was a thing and it even came with its own nostalgia-inducing commercial.

Rick and Morty gave us a refresher on the dipper's saucy history and had us literally salivating over our screens during the episode's runtime. However, the adventure doesn't end there, some plucky upstart has actually created a petition to bring back the sauce, which sees support growing by the hour. The Szechuan sauce is certainly one way to spice up your life and a new craze is sweeping the world, while fans of #DanHarmon and #JustinRoiland's show are actually becoming obsessed with the mythical marvel:

Rick teased that his quest for the addictive condiment would take him through to Season 9 of the show (presumably in 2114). However, with the live-action Mulan slated for 2018, it could be the perfect time for those golden arches to make with the good stuff and bring back its sauce:

Unsurprisingly, no one from McDonald's is yet to respond to the news, apart from a tweet that jokingly acknowledges the idea. Surely some McDonald's high-ranker, somewhere, must've tuned in on April 1 and thought "that would be a great idea." As for the campaign, fans are already creating t-shirts for the cause and it has a rather famous backer that is shouting out to Ronald McDonald. Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland tweeted his support of the idea, so we can only assume that he too had a taste in 1998:

The wait may finally be nearly over for the highly anticipated third season of the show, however, all anyone can talk about now is the Szechuan McNugget sauce. For the time being, it seems the only place we can get it is inside the expansive mind of Rick Sanchez, so thanks, Rick and Morty, always leaving us hungry for more. Gotta get me some of that sweet sauce, I hear it'll "make a man out of you."
