Sex and the City

Everybody Hates Carrie

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 30 days ago 3 min read

Sex and the City is one of the most iconic shows to come out of the late 90s-early 2000s for so many reasons. But I think one of the things that most of the fans can agree on is how much Carrie Bradshaw sucks. If you don’t agree then perhaps you should rethink your own personal actions and personality because there is no way to experience her character without anger. Let’s go ahead and discuss why.

She’s literally crazy

Carrie, from the moment she starts being attracted to Big, seems to be unable to regulate her emotions. Like a toddler having a tantrum, Carrie constantly blows up at Big for things that should be really simple conversations. She also really loved to blame him for her problems. She loved creating situations in her head and when he wouldn’t apologize for however she felt slighted, she’d blow up. She literally stalked Big and his mother to church and then made that his problem. Now if this was happening in her teens or 20s everything would be somewhat normal or at the very least would make sense. But at the start of this series Carrie is around 35 and therefore there is no justification for her inability to communicate like an adult.

She’s a cheater

Let’s start with the fact that she cheated on Big with some random guy just before Big said “I love you”. They kissed and he spent the night in her bed…cheating incident #1. And then of course we get to probably the worst thing she’s ever done, cheating on Aiden. The affair with Big literally starts while Aiden is at her apartment fixing her floors. Then, as an added bonus, she is talking to Big while Aiden is upstairs in her bed, and she loses Aiden’s dog. She doesn’t think about anybody but herself, and she really thinks she is the victim in the whole affair.

She’s a bad friend

Truly does not matter what her friends were going through; Miranda is pregnant, Samantha is in her first real relationship, Charlotte is going through a divorce and Carrie is still wholly self absorbed and bitching about Big. It was always about Big and her and her and Big and she would constantly interrupt her friends talking about their real problems to talk about her stupid relationship crap that she brought on herself.

She’s selfish

Carrie is eating with her friends and Natasha walks in and Carrie has the AUDACITY to say that she can’t believe that there is someone in New York who hates her that much…she can’t believe that the woman whose husband she slept with hates her…really? She is shocked that she’s responsible for their separation ALSO that’s all she can think about. Herself. How SHE’S responsible, how SHE feels about it, it’s ridiculous. Also the getting back together with Aiden and then forcing him to be okay with the fact that she is still very friendly with the man she cheated on him with.

She’s Irresponsible

She had enough money in shoes for the down payment on her apartment, but instead of selling her shoes she decides to complain and solicit money from her friends instead. Also the whole “sometimes I’d buy Vogue instead of food because I felt that it fed me more”, irresponsible and insufferable.

Carrie is quite possibly one of my least favorite television characters of all time. She was a selfish, irresponsible, cheater and she is truly incapable of taking care of herself as a grown woman. She deserved to be left at the altar and the fact that she ended up marrying Big after that just proves how stupid and crazy she is.
