Our SIX newly-hired guns defend the peaceful vampires of Ashthorne from Chastity’s old flame, the merciless vampire slayer LEVITICUS. Meanwhile, Victory struggles to hide her newfound faith from the team and Vampirella is (literally) not quite herself. also, Nyx’s time-mashup adventure builds to a climax, but can she reclaim her hellfire scepter before her remaining life force expires?

What a spectacular series this is. We open up with Nyx and her time-mash up which is a perfect way for readers to get an even better look at what makes her tick. I am pretty amazed at the amount of storytelling that is fit into a single issue here. That we get to see the story move forward as well as get to see some absolutely bloody amazing characterisation in some truly inspired and unexpected ways is what makes this book so damn good. This cast of characters working together is something that shouldn’t work all that well but does, I mean they all don’t like each other very much for various reasons so that they’ve a common foe that can force them to put aside their differences is something huge.

I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how he sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development is bloody brilliant thanks to the dialogue, character interaction and the way that they act and react to the situations and circumstances that they encounter. The pacing here is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story along with the twists & turns we see keep us in awe of what we’re seeing here.

I greatly appreciate the way that this is being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and emerge anew depending on the avenues we see playing out here. The good bits of characterisation and background really play out strongly in these layers and some work within the main arc while others swirl around it but all of adds this delicious depth and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is superbly achieved.

I love, love, love the interiors here. The linework is superb and it’s strong, clean and crisp and how it utilises the varying weights and techniques to create this level of detail work is astonishingly well rendered. Not gonna lie i’d like to see more backgrounds being utilised but all things being equal they are utilised well and enhance the moments along with bringing us depth perception, a sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The creativity and imagination that we see is fabulous and see Nyx’s dad is a complete wow moment. Then there’s Draculina and what she does with her visage is utterly amazing as well. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a stunningly talented eye for storytelling. The colour work is magical as well. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a brilliant eye for how colour works.

This story is so much fun and if or when the real Vampirella shows up it’s going to be some kind of free-for-all between the two and I really hope we see that happen. Regardless, this book has everything you could possibly want and that the characters have such an uneasy alliance is something you can actually feel bubbling under the surface. Priest really is a helluva talented writer and the way this is being told with these amazing interiors bring us some great new views on these characters.
