Ranking the MCU

Shows

Now because you can not actually accurately compare formats I have decided that this needs to be its own article. Here I will be ranking the MCU shows, now this only refers to the Disney+ shows.

WandaVision

Super biased ranking and I don’t care even a little bit. Multiverse of Madness did not make this project retroactively bad, the existence of WandaVision made Multiverse of Madness terrible. Wanda finally gets the attention she deserves and it was beautiful and one of the most comic book accurate things the MCU has ever produced.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Honestly this is probably tied with WandaVision but this made me so so excited for a Sam Wilson Captain America movie. Also having him and Bucky as friends to ease the pain of them both losing Steve was really awesome to see.

Ms. Marvel

The most comic book accurate thing the MCU has ever produced from a character standpoint. Iman was absolutely perfect casting for Kamala and she is such a beautiful addition to the Marvel family, I can not wait to see her back in the Marvels.

She-Hulk

Another piece of comic book accurate perfection, She-Hulk was good no matter what anyone else says. It was funny, it was entertaining and most importantly it was a very straightforward commentary on how women are treated in “nerd” spaces. It was accurate and irrefutable considering the responses to the show.

Moon Knight

Started off really good but by the end it did feel like two different shows. Both were good but because they were so tonally different overall the show felt very disjointed and I think there were ways to tell the story they wanted to tell while keeping it coherent. That said it was very self-contained and though on one hand that is a good thing because it's one of the very few projects that exist in the MCU that you don’t have to see a million other projects to keep up with. However Layla was a hero by the end and we got Moon Knight's third personality so I would like to see more of them. Whether it be in a second season or actually interacting with other characters I want more of these characters.

Hawkeye

Now I love the introduction of Kate Bishop because she is one of my favorite comic book characters. I love that this also furthered the idea of the Young Avengers and I love the use of Yelena however as an overall project it was kind of meh. This felt like it was a “set-up” project, meaning that the entire point of it was to set up future MCU projects.

Loki

Loki was 100% a set-up project. The intention was to set up the idea of the multiverse and it did that but it also raised more questions than answers, questions that have only gotten worse since. This is a project I had to struggle to finish, it was not good. There are a lot of weird things that happen in the MCU but having Loki fall in love with a variant of himself was so unbearably stupid and there is no excuse for it.

I think the Disney+ MCU shows have been mostly good and they are great supplemental content in between movies. Another good thing about them is they seem to be separating out the street level heroes from the cosmic ones so that you don’t actually have to watch everything in order for future projects to make sense. I look forward to the next phase of shows, as that is my preferred format for media anyway, but I am also skeptical.
