Return to Eden, Wyoming in two thrilling tales from Top Cow’s Talent Hunt winners! Can Sheriff Roy Magnum really maintain order in a town full of criminals? Plus, a glimpse inside the mind of Molly, Eden’s own serial-killing boogeyman!

I love the town of Eden, Wyoming and the first story we get here is a great example of why this town hold such a huge appeal towards people. It is nice to see Mag and Mayor Shiffron again, in town that is, it is a nice reminder of the way things were before Mark took over. Though lets face it Mark is a much more complicated individual and has a lot more interest and intrigue factor to him for me personally. Still it is nice that Top Cow has decided to take their Talent Hunt winners and have them work on a story in Eden where there’s still so much left to explore. It is a nice way to showcase their talents and what the company saw in them. Though I wouldn’t classify Stephanie as new talent and we’ll talk more about her segment later.

I like the way that this is being told. I have to say that how we the story & plot development through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented extremely well. The way that this is structured and how we see everything working together to create the story’s eb & flow really keeps us moving forward nicely. The character development is fantastic and as we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances placed before them we see how they are continually fleshed out. I really am impressed with the level and quality of characterisation that we see here. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story at hand.

I think i love the whole aspect of secrets and not wanting to talk about them and how they permeate throughout Eden and this story in particular. It makes me miss this series more than I had realised and seeing Sampson well that’s just an added bonus. The way this town is structured and how it works is beyond amazing so it’s really enjoyable to see these folks get that.

The interiors here are really rather nicely done. The style is specific and while I generally gravitate towards clean, strong lines, what we see here is really interesting. We get some wonderful detail work happening and the faces and facial expressions enhance the characterisation beautifully. There is something in the way that we see this that enhances the mood, tone and feel of the moments and make them feel even creepier than expected. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a strong eye for storytelling. The colour work is beautiful and how we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work is extremely nice to see.

Molly’s story was unnecessary in my opinion. It felt as if we were in the middle of something and we don’t know what that was or where it was going. It was just a portion of a story that had no beginning or ending and you couldn’t really discern any true purpose to what was happening. For me it was a total mess. The interiors were atypical comic book style that many new artists prefer to emulate. There was some nice detail work and how we see the backgrounds and colours were beautifully rendered throughout. It is just a shame that story didn’t feel like it fit anywhere.
