'Peaky Blinders'

A 4 Season Thriller

This show was a surprise to me. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was in reality. The start of season one was interesting, but it took a bit too long to get into it. Once you get halfway into the first episode, it hooks you in. Not only does it have a great storyline, but it is something different than anything else out there. There really isn't another show set back after the war that focuses on an English "mob" family and how they try to make their way up in society.

The first episode does have a very slow start, and it takes a bit to get through it in all honesty. When I first watched it, I did not even get through the episode. I actually stopped watching and had to pick the show back up later on. But once you get through the first half of the episode, it really starts to pull you in.

The Shelby Family, who the show is following, have this likable quality about them for the most part. You feel for them because they are doing whatever is needed to climb the social ranking. 95% of the activities that they are involved in are illegal and manage to always end up taking the wrong direction, almost losing them everything. This family isn't like your family or mine; in one way it is, but I don't think most families have a mob that they've started. I won't give too much detail as I do not want to spoil the show for you all.

Something that I really appreciate about the show is that, while there is a lot of drinking and sex, you do not see much of the sex part. You see bits and pieces of it, but unlike other shows where they show a little too much, this one I found has a line that it follows that works well for viewers.

Also, once the show really gets going, it is entertaining the entire time through. There is no slow moment, or moment where something interesting is not happening. The plot keeps building and having new twists and turns, and it really provides non stop action.

A fun fact is that the cast is amazing in the show. The acting is second to none with none of the cast members ever being dull or boring, unlike so many other shows where you just cannot stand someone in it. And there are some pretty big names in the show as well, the biggest surprise being Tom Hardy, who does a brilliant job in his role, and hearing him talk with an accent is dreamy!

Personally, I find that so many of the shows now are all the same. There are not really any good action/drama shows anymore, they are all either about serial killers (which I love do not get me wrong, I have written my fair share about those shows) or about some sort of romantic journey. And a lot of shows are just so similar to others; like how many CSI's do we really need? So to have something like this that is new and takes place in a different time than what we are used to seeing is exciting.

Following this sort of dysfunctional, yet functioning, crazy family is something that is quite enjoying to watch. It's like Keeping up with the Kardashians, but without the fakeness and without the social media aspect, and with a lot of fights, killing and drinking. Basically, you are following a family's journey in England as they try to go from nothing to something. And it's also interesting to see the mob life they have growing as well.

Now, by order of the Peaky Blinders, go give this show a watch (that will make a lot more sense once you watch the show BTW)!
