Mamma Mia! That was the craziest wedding I have ever been to.

North Shore Music Theater opens up its doors for the first time since the pandemic with Mamma Mia! Having never known who her real dad is, Sophie invites three men who may be her father to her wedding. Only, she has no idea which man could be her father. Her mother, Donna, is sent up the wall, as calamity ensues.

I never realized how much I missed sitting in a theater until I was watching Mamma Mia at North Shore Music Theater. Full of excitement, the cast of Mamma Mia did an amazing job illuminating the stage with their phenomenal energy. Mamma Mia is a night you will never forget.

Sara Bartoszek unearthed a beautiful rendition of ‘I Have a Dream’ the instant she entered the stage as Sophie. Bartoszek did a wonderful job with her character, finding Sophie’s strong demeanor.

In the signature song of the show, Lexie Dorsett Sharp belted out ‘Mamma Mia’. I enjoyed her humor and her ecstatic reactions. Sharp had a tremendous voice gaining huge applause during ‘The Winner Takes it All’. She dove into her character with incredible range. Bartoszek and Sharp delivered an endearing mother-daughter relationship.

As the highlights of the show, Merrill Peiffer and Tiffani Barbour were excellent as Tanya and Rosie, Donna’s dancing queen best pals. Both had signature numbers of their own. Peiffer was especially noteworthy in the hit number, ‘Does Your Mother Know That You’re Out.’

The trio established a memorable dynamic filled with jokes, teasing, and dancing around. Friendship is the core of Mamma Mia. That’s one of my favorite parts of this show to which the cast nailed. Friendship is a gift.

The instant they step onto the stage, Jessie Sharp, Al Bundonis, and David Elder were great as the three possible dads. I like how they each established their own distinct personality. They also had wonderful comedic timing. I will always get a kick out of Sharp and his signature dancing in one scene.

No part is ever small in the theater. The ensemble did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. One of the most important parts of any show is that the entire cast is having fun. When they’re having fun, so is the audience.

Mamma Mia is dance-heavy. The cast of Mamma Mia’s electric exuberance was incredible as they conquered tough dance numbers. The flipper dance is always a memorable number. Although it’s tough, it turns out you can dance in flippers.

Give a hand to the crew members for their endless hard work throughout the show. The crew did an impeccable job incorporating beautiful lighting, sound, and creating gorgeous costumes. Sets were also crafted well, too.

With a live orchestra right on-stage, song numbers to include are ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Lay All Your Love on Me,’ ‘Take a Chance on Me’, ‘Voulez Vous’, and countless other songs written by ABBA.

One of my favorite parts about theater is audience reaction. Looking around the audience I saw several people dancing around in their seats, having a good time. Director Kevin P. Hill’s noteworthy direction of Mamma Mia aimed for a fun night out at the theater. Since we have all been stuck inside for a year, it’s an amazing feeling to be back in the theater.

Get your tickets fast. You do not want to miss North Shore Music Theater’s production of Mamma Mia. Be aware that there is suggestive content that may not be appropriate for young audiences. Get your dancing queen best pals together and go see Mamma Mia at NSMT.
