Secret Obsession was released on Netflix on July 18, 2019. If you like psychological thriller films, this is one to watch. The 97-minute movie has three talented actors including Brenda Song, Mike Vogel, and Dennis Haysbert. It has the usual suspenseful moments of a psychological thriller that most people love.

The Plot Without Spoilers

A young woman is seen running down the street on a rainy night. She is not caught by the person chasing her, but she is hit by a car and ends up in the hospital where she has no memory of what happened or who she is.

A man tells the hospital staff that he is her husband. Without getting sufficient proof, the hospital releases the woman in the custody of the man. He takes her to his secluded home, and that's where the mystery heightens throughout the remainder of the movie that will keep you guessing what will happen next.

Clues Along the Way

There are dozens of clues along the way. However, it is Detective Frank Page played by Dennis Haysbert who is the only one suspicious about the young people when they can't be found to answer questions about the accident.

There are twists and turns around every corner. An avid viewer of this type of movie will see the clues long before the average Netflix watcher. Therefore, it is wise to watch for clues along the way that lead to the expected conclusion.

Common Themes

It is true that Secret Obsession has the usual themes of a psychological thriller. Some critics call it an "ultra-cheesy stalker thriller" while others say it will become one of their next guilty pleasure.

Viewers of the film will soon discover that some things are not as they appear to be. For example, the woman who has the starring role doesn't know who she is while someone else deliberately pretends to be someone he is not.

The Cast

Song and Vogel (Photo by Alex Lombard via Netflix)

Brenda Song is praised for her performance. She has been acting since 1993, but her role in this movie is not like her usual roles in movies, such as London Leah Tipton in Disney's The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Critics say Song hits many emotional notes and makes all the appropriate shocked faces and voices as the 31-year-old actress uncovers each new clue surrounding her situation.

This former Disney star is now a mainstream actress. Song is not married, but she has been in a relationship with Macaulay Culkin since 2017.

Mike Vogel gets some praise, but he doesn't get as much praise as Song. In fact, viewers think he is not as inspiring as he could have been in this thriller. The actor was born on July 17, 1979. Therefore, he turned 40 one day before the release of Secret Obsession.

Vogel has been in the business since 2001. He is known for his starring role in CBS’ sci-fi drama Under the Dome. He got married in 2003 to Courtney, a former model. They have three children together: Cassy Renee, born 2007; Charlee B., born 2009; and Gabriel James Vogel, born 2013.

Dennis Haysbert plays the part of Detective Frank Page. He snoops around and does not give up until he finds answers to the case of the missing young woman with memory loss.

The twice-divorced father of two has been acting since 1978. Since then, he has starred in many television and movie roles, including 24. The 65-year-old actor is also known for his Allstate Insurance commercials. So, don't be surprised if you think you are hearing him asking, "Are you in good hands?"

The trailer has captured viewers' attention. It has been viewed over 2.5 million times on YouTube. That is a good indication that viewers of the trailer are interested in the Netflix movie. Many who watched the trailer did reveal they thought it included too many spoilers, but it did not keep them from watching Secret Obsession. Therefore, watch the above official trailer at your own risk.
