My Review of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. The Reverend"

An interactive episode with all of the antics you come to expect from Kimmy Schmidt.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. The Reverend is an interactive adventure exclusive on Netflix. It's pretty interesting to see Netflix innovate with their programming by allowing interactive films on their streaming source. I'm sure this might be one of the pioneering films of this sort. Although I think it this option might be better catered to children than an adult audience.

This episode starts off with Kimmy planning her wedding. I know it seems really out of the blue because the last episode of the TV series made no mention of any romantic interests or anything. It's a totally absurd idea but they went with it.

They play it off as if it's nothing even though the whole situation is rather ridiculous. She's set to get married to Prince Frederick. He's an actual prince that's not just a name. It kind of feels suiting since Kimmy's a woman-child and kind of lives her life like a fairy tale. So even though it seems crazy it does oddly feel kind of right at home for Kimmy to be marrying a prince.

Kimmy can't just have such an easy happy ending so they added a few side plots to have us interacting with the story. Her talking backpack is going to be a bridesmaid and she wants to lose weight and finds out there's been a book inside her for a while. The book happens to be a find your own adventure book but it's not Kimmy's book.

Kimmy discovers that there might be other mole women so she has to go see the reverend to find out the truth. Meanwhile Jacqueline is now Titus' agent. She's got him a pretty big acting job but he's got to start working out for the role. Titus obviously doesn't want to cooperate with Jacqueline so a whole bunch of hilarious ensues.

There's a whole slew of endings that you can possibly achieve but a lot of those endings are bad endings. Whenever you hit a bad ending they kind of go back in time so you can change your mind and see a different direction. Don't worry about making a ridiculous choice because they'll allow you to see other endings.

For the most part a lot of the endings are pretty funny. You'll have even more fun with this interactive adventure if you know who the characters are. I know why would you even be going through this if you didn't follow the show. They make fun of the fact that it's an interactive adventure and that you might not know who some of the characters are. It kind of reminds me of some of the old full motion video games that they used to have on the old Sega CD. I know a lot of people won't even know what thing is anymore but yeah we used to have these back in the 90's.

The whole episode really does feel like an episode. It's not very long at all. There is the added bonus that you can go through the show again and make different choices but overall it's fairly short and you can probably get through the whole thing in about half an hour. So it's not as deep as you think it is.

Still it's a fun little diversion if you're looking for something to do and you liked the TV series. You'll definitely like it if you've followed Kimmy Schmidt and know all of the characters.

Overall, I had fun with this experimental episode. It is extremely short and I kind of think that this sort of interaction is probably best used in children's TV shows but who knows. I have to give this interactive show a 7 out of 10. I went through it once and I don't think I would go through it again even though it was fun the first time.
