My Review of "The Orville: Season 3"
The latest season of The Orville finally released. Thank goodness, I was worried it got cancelled.
The Orville: Season 3 has finally dropped on Disney Plus for streaming. I was really worried that this series had been cancelled. There wasn't much word of this TV show shortly after the pandemic and I thought it was cancelled. Low and behold this beautiful season was finally released and it was so much fun.
For those of you that don't know, this show is kind of an offshoot rip off of Star Trek but it's really fun. The same sort of stories and ideas from Star Trek are all apparent here in this show but there's a bit of a twist. They make this show a lot lighter so there's a lot more jokes. There's also a lot more intense space battles.
The season starts off from a massive attack from the Kaylon. They're a robotic race that are out for dominance. Unfortunately they're strictly logical and have decided to rid the universe of potentially dangerous races including humans.
This creates chaos in the universe but also makes some unlikely alliances. Rival alien races are making friends with each other to form some sort of unity against the Kaylon. Basically they all know that in order to fight this higher being we all have to band together.
As with any alliance there will be set backs and each alien race has their egos to contend with. Everyone wants some sort of domination over their own areas and potentially more. Power and greed get in the way and there's infighting between the alliances.
A lot of the season was based on these arguments and deceptions. I like the fact that they made realistic reactions from groups trying to make alliances as we can see this in our world as well. There's a lot of hidden messages within each of these morale arguments that they have throughout the show.
Many of the topics that are talked about are race, gender, religion and freedoms. A lot of the hot topics that we talk about today but written in metaphors throughout the show. They get their point across trying not to hammer it into our heads how we should be understanding what's goin on. Everything is kind of an open ended question and that's what we loved about Star Trek.
Again it's the humor that keeps me attracted to the conversations they have. They have some pretty heavy topics that they discuss and they need to cut the tension with some humor. This show has a healthy does of it but knows when it needs to stay on the more serious side.
Battles at times makes me think I wish Star Trek had battles like this. They are huge and epic. Tons of ships flying through the galaxy and having all out wars. Not all of the special effects are great seeing as it's a television show but they do the job. We can sense the intensity of the situations and it's really fun.
Most of this season revolves around the relationship with Charly and Isaac. Charly is a new crew member and she's having a hard time dealing with her personal losses due to the Kaylon attacks. Isaac is Kaylon and longstanding member of the Orville crew.
Obviously Isaac is going to have a very interesting season with what had happened with the Kaylon and the galaxy. Charly we see her thought process throughout the season. She grows as a person and starts to understand that things are always black and white. It's a nice development character that we see throughout the season.
Overall, I really enjoyed this season. All of the main cast members are established and now we're going into some universe development in this series. It's so much fun because they're very consistent with their canon. They have some call backs from older episodes from previous seasons to appease the fans that have been keeping up from day one as well. I have to give this season a 7.5 out of 10. I hope they continue with this trend and continue to keep me glued to their show.
