My Review of "The Muppet Christmas Carol"

A fun retelling of an age old classic. If you're a fan of The Muppets, this is a must watch.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is as fun as the title indicates. It came out back in 1992 when movies weren't quite as political as they are nowadays. The movie pretty much follows the classic story to a T but with the quirky Muppet twist to things.

The movie starts off with Charles Dickens played by Gonzo. It's kind of funny since we know that Gonzo is a puppet played by a real person. So it's an actor acting as an actor in the movie. The whole concept is pretty hilarious because much of the characters in this movie are played by other popular Muppets that you know and love. Charles is telling his Christmas Carol story to Rizzo the Rat who is played by Rizzo the Rat. Yeah this is a Muppet's movie alright.

Charles introduces and acts as a segue from scenes to scenes. His antics with Rizzo the Rat are pretty hilarious because they're so nonsensical and ridiculous. As they go into the introduction of Ebenezer Scrooge there's a song and dance that help introduce this miser of a character. Scrooge is obviously horrible but he's so hilariously exaggerated when he interacts with some of his Muppet neighbors.

All of the popular Muppets that they use are perfectly casted in this movie. You have Kermit as Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's business partner. His wife is of course is played by Ms. Piggy. It makes me wonder why they didn't think of making Muppets that were pig and frog crossbreeds. I know it's a kids movie but kids have to know about this stuff. They'll see it in real life when they see their friends when they look at their friend's parents.

The jokes come a mile a minute and they go by so fast sometimes that this movie is worth watching over and over again. You'll probably understand new jokes along the way or find different things that you never noticed the first time. There's so many layer's to the comedy in this movie along with many Muppets movies.

I was really impressed with some of the visuals in this movie. We understand how most of the characters are puppets played by people. They are well hidden throughout the movie. The thing is they come up with some really fancy camera work that makes you start wondering how the heck did they do that. Even though this movie is close to 30 years old.

The production of the movie looks amazing as well. You can see the level of detail that they included in a lot of the environment and the sheer amount of Muppets that they have on the screen at one time in each of the scenes is incredible.

More importantly is that this movie has a ton of fun. They throw the puppets around like rag dolls and even use the puppets as washcloths at some times. It will definitely give you a smile when you watch it. The Muppets sure know how to lay on the cheese while making it seem normal because they're puppets.

Overall, this movie is a classic. I would say you'll even get more out of it if you're a Muppets fan. Even if you don't know the Muppets and are unfamiliar with the show I think you'll still be able to have a great time watching this movie. The comedy in this movie is ageless and fun for the whole family. I have to give this movie a 7.5 out of 10. There is only a small lull when scrooge meets with the future ghost. It's more of a somber and serious tone but can be a bit much. I still think everyone should check this movie out for Christmas.
