My Review of "Spider-Man: No Way Home"

A healthy dose of nostalgia for those that have been keeping up from 2002.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally been released. It's been a hotly anticipated movie for quite some time. I remember back when the pandemic first started we had rumblings and rumors about what this sequel would entail. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on who you ask) most of those rumors have come to fruition.

This movie starts off just as you would expect had you seen the many trailers that have been circulating the Internet. It starts off right after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The big secret is out, Peter Parker is Spider-Man and everyone in the world has found out because of Mysterio.

So we see a lot of the repercussions of this huge reveal. It not only affects Peter but it also affects everyone that surrounds him. His friends can't go to the school that they wanted to go to because they're associated with Spider-Man "the vigilante". Everyone that surrounds Peter pretty much have no privacy at all. They're constantly being hounded by the media.

The worst thing about everything is he doesn't really get anything positive out of the whole ordeal. I guess you can say that the only good thing is that he doesn't have to hold his secret any longer. We often forget about how the world is so connected and being in the public eye is very different because of the amount of cameras around us.

Peter pretty much has it with the constant hounding and the fact that everyone around him is negatively being affected. To fix everything he goes to Doctor Strange to see if he could cook up a spell for everyone to forget who he is. Due to a series of screw ups the spell doesn't go according to plan. Instead we have villains from other multiverses come into the MCU.

Everyone's confused when they all finally meet. They're the villains we remember from the previous Spider-Man movies. I would never have thought I'd see these villains again. It truly was a blast from the past and in a great way.

Peter has to make some tricky moral decisions when Doctor Strange plans to send everyone back to their original universe. It really harkens back to the old original Spider-Man movies from the early 2000's. In those Spider-Man movies Peter really had to make some tough choices. The villains had the same problems too.

I felt like a lot of this movie really relate to those early 2000's Spider-Man movies especially since they had many nods to those past movies. There were certain montages that reminded me of the montage of when they were trying to disassemble Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. That's not to say that they didn't make any homages to the Amazing Spider-Man series. I could see a lot of throwbacks to that series as well. It's just that I felt that this movie payed special attention to those early 2000's Spider-Man. Maybe it's also that I remember that series the most because it was my favorite Spider-Man series.

Watching this movie gave me all sorts of emotions. I just remembered how great those old villains were. Seeing Green Goblin and Doc Ock back again really made me realize how great these villains were to the Spider-Man franchise. If you missed out on all the old movies then you might be missing out on a lot with this movie though. This movie plays with the notion that you do remember all of the events and antics that played out in the older movies. I'm sure they'll make those that haven't seen them curious to see what those movies are all about.

The entertainment factor to this movie depends on how much you really know the Spider-Man franchise. I felt like there was a lot of fan service to this movie. Than again you don't really have to know about those other Spider-Man movies to enjoy the action sequences. They really go over the top with the fight sequences in the best way. Hits feel very painful when you watch them fight. The impact is incredible and the sheer amount of chaos kept me giddy throughout the runtime.

In addition this movie also leads us to understand what's going on with the MCU. It really leads us closer to the Doctor Strange movie that we know is coming soon. After watching this movie you're going to have a better understanding of what the direction is going to be and how all of the TV series and movies are connected with one another. It takes a lot of planning to do this and I'm incredibly impressed at how they were able to do this.

Overall, its all about the fun factor of this movie. The most important thing about this movie was that I had a smile on my face from start to finish. I even stayed to watch both the post cut scenes. I'll have to give this movie an 8 out of 10. It is a very enjoyable movie, especially for everyone that has been keeping up with the Spider-Man movies from 2002 all the way to now. That's close to 20 years of movies! I hope everyone gets to enjoy this movie ass much as I did.
