My Review of "Happy Death Day 2 U"

The sequel that we weren't expecting. It unexpectedly builds on the previous movie.

Happy Death Day 2 U is the sequel to a semi mediocre horror movie Happy Death Day. I did not expect them to bring this franchise back for a sequel let alone build on the original movie. The first movie wasn't that bad. I had a good time watching it and I still remember most of what had happened. There was a lot of throwbacks to the original movie. If you liked the first movie you should definitely watch this one.

Before I go into this movie you'll have to know that the last movie was about how the main character Tree was mysteriously revisiting her birthday over and over again. Each day she would die a different gruesome death and repeat the day until she stopped the mysterious murderer chasing after her.

The sequel starts off with the character Ryan from the last movie. He played a very small part in the previous movie so I was surprised to see him start off the movie. I love the fact that there is a lot of misdirection in this movie. Ultimately this really isn't his movie. It is still very much still about the character Tree from the last movie.

There's a series of events that were caused by Ryan that result in Tree reliving her birthday over and over again. This time there's a twist. Of course there's a twist or else this movie would be pretty boring. This new day that she's reliving over again is a different universe that she's unfamiliar with.

There are a lot for her to love and hate about this new world. Ultimately, Tree has to figure a way to stop the repetitive day and decide which universe she wants to live in.

I didn't know what kind of ride they were going to take me on when I first got into this movie. The first movie was a lot of fun and this movie has just as much fun. You'll feel that it has the same vibe and aesthetic as the first movie. Those that liked the first movie will definitely like this movie as well.

The way they added and developed upon the original movie was very impressive. Some would say it's a pretty cheap attempt at extending the franchise but the movie wasn't exactly the most serious movie in the first place. This movie has a lot of fun and I felt the cast had a good time making this movie as well.

Some would say that the first movie wasn't really a horror movie. It really wasn't because there weren't any really scary moments. The second movie has even less scares. I think the sequel is totally removed itself from the horror element and go into science fiction territory with a side of comedy.

There will be people that will give this movie really low scores because it doesn't really excel in any department. It's not really funny, scary or thrilling. They added a lot to this movie and it just gels together. This movie is fun to watch but you probably won't really remember it after a few hours. That's the only problem with this movie. They needed something a little more memorable to make this movie re-watchable.

Overall, I still liked this movie regardless of it being jack of all trades and master of none. It was an enjoyable viewing but I barely remember the movie after only a few hours. I have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10. If you liked the first movie I would highly suggest you check this movie out. Those that haven't seen the first movie, I think you might get lost with some of their side jokes.
