Dave Chappelle's newest stand-up special has released. As many of you have already read online, this stand-up special is pretty controversial. I'm kind of surprised at how controversial it is. We've seen Chappelle's work in the past, and the subject matter that he talks about isn't really new. We also know that he's made a thriving career from speaking his mind.

One of the reasons why it might be quite controversial is because of a joke that he actually tells in the special. He mentioned there's a certain group he can't make fun of in Hollywood, or else he would suffer severe consequences. Guess what? He made fun of that group in that special anyways. It wasn't in a harsh way, but he made his own observations about the group in a humorous way. Sensitive people may find it offensive, but then again why would they be watching Dave Chappelle's comedy special? I think his previous work may have been just as offensive.

Another memorable thing that he mentions in his special is that it's not his fault if we get offended by his humor. We're the ones that had selected his special to watch. It's not like it's automatically shoved down our throats that we have to select his special to watch. Those that choose to watch his special most likely already know why his special is so controversial in the first place. There's not a lot of people that will just wander off and watch shows without some sort of star power behind it. This is why not anyone can be a YouTube star. Plus it's Netflix, they automatically filter to videos that best suit your tastes.

It made me think about how we all try to live in a collective, but not all of us want to be part of the collective. Just because something offends you, it doesn't mean that we should cancel the whole show for the rest of the world. Some people are offended by the smallest things. We would have to censor a ton of content in this world if that was the case.

The show is funny, and there are a few laugh out loud jokes, and you should stay for the epilogue of the special. I don't know if it's as memorable as his earlier hits, but it was great. I know he speaks on anything, and tries not to have a filter but in a way I felt that he had a bit of a filter in this special.

I think this filter probably stems from practicing shows around different audiences. Although he himself might not have a filter, he's probably seen what works and what doesn't work. It is a new age now, and his material is definitely shaped by this. Some of his earlier audience members may find certain things funny, but will cringe at laughing out loud about certain subjects so he probably had to crop those jokes out of his sets. I think this is the case with a lot of comedians. This is the reason why we should all go to comedy clubs. You get to hear all of the unfiltered jokes before the comedian cleans them up to put on the big stage.

Overall, I enjoyed the special and thought it was a great time. I think a lot of people might also agree, but may not say so because of our political correctness. It's okay, we're all entitled to our own opinions. The problem comes when we prevent others from forming their own opinions. I guess that's what a lot of comedians are fighting against today. I'll have to give Dave Chappelle: Sticks and Stones a 9 out of 10.
