My Review of "Andor: Season 1"

The first Disney TV series void of jokes or cutesy puppets? I think that's why people are clamoring over this.

Andor: Season 1 has just wrapped up on Disney Plus. If you're a fan of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie you'll be at home with the tone of this series. You'll also be familiar with the main character and the setting of this show. I was a huge fan of Rogue One so I couldn't wait to check this show out.

It all starts out with our main protagonist Cassian Andor looking for answers in all the wrong places. His pursuit gets him into a bit of trouble and there's this huge man hunt for him. In trying to escape he meets a mysterious man that asks for his help.

This first portion of the movie sets the darker tone of the show and describes what kind of person Cassian is. He's able to outwit the empire because of the empires own ego. These valuable assets pretty much explain how he's been able to survive for so long despite getting into such crazy situations.

Due to the amount of craziness this guy gets himself into there is also a path of destruction. In the wake of his waves he causes a chain reaction of imperial officers to chase after him. He's caused such a huge problem that he has no choice but to accept the mysterious man's proposition in helping the rebels.

That mission to help the rebels causes yet another huge chain reaction big enough to affect the empire's coffers. We start to root for this guy because he's only one guy that's able to cause so much destruction to this gigantic government organization. A lot of people will resonate with this for that a lone.

This show was created for the people of this time. It's about an underdog that triumphs over a huge organization despite all odds. Not only once either. It happens again and again and you know this is the prequel to Rogue One so they're never really going to get him.

There are so many people today that are disillusioned by our own government that this show is basically pandering to them. There aren't a lot of jokes throughout the show because they would really feel out of place if they added them.

Despite the fact that so much happens in this one season, I still feel that the pacing of this show is a little bit off. There are times when I feel it drags on a lot. This show will take its time focusing on character's faces for dramatic effect. It does this quite often and at times it's quite noticeable. Their explanation of their intricate political storyline can bog down the show quite a bit.

Visually this show is quite stunning. There's a lot to love about it because it still has a lot of the aesthetics of Rogue One. Special effects are seamless throughout the movie and there's no part that really takes your attention away from the show.

This show has a lot of great story concepts but again it's kind of pandering to the social political climate that we live in today. I can see a lot of people liking it as they can relate to the situations in the show. Others will not really like the pace of the show as it drags on for dramatic effect.

Overall, I still had a good time with this show but the pacing issue did get to me especially in the early part of the show. The last half of the show is quite a roller coaster ride so it is worth sludging through the monotony. There are a few big payoffs in this show whereas most shows only have one big one. I have to give this show a 7.5 out of 10. It really picks up at the end but be warned to tape your eyes open in the beginning. You might not make it to the good parts.
