"Mortal Engines" is a post-apocalyptic adventure film directed by Christian Rivers and produced by Peter Jackson, based on the novel of the same name by Philip Reeve. The film is set in a future where civilization has been destroyed by a devastating event known as the "Sixty Minute War," and the remaining cities have become mobile and predatory, hunting and devouring smaller cities to survive.

The film follows the story of a young woman named Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), who is on a quest for revenge against Thaddeus Valentine (Hugo Weaving), the man who murdered her mother. Hester teams up with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), a historian from London, after Thaddeus tries to kill Tom and he is thrown off the moving city. Together, they navigate the dangerous wasteland and try to stop Thaddeus from carrying out his evil plans.

The film starts with a brief introduction of the world, where we see a huge, mobile city called London chasing down a smaller city called Salzhaken. As Salzhaken is being devoured by London, we are introduced to Tom Natsworthy, who works in the museum of London, and Hester Shaw, who is hiding on Salzhaken. Hester is seen trying to assassinate Thaddeus Valentine, but Tom intervenes and stops her. Thaddeus is a high-ranking official in London and is working on a secret weapon that he believes will make London unstoppable.

After being thrown off London, Tom and Hester team up to survive in the dangerous wasteland. They are pursued by Thaddeus, who wants to eliminate Hester before she can expose his evil plans. Along the way, they encounter Anna Fang (Jihae), the leader of a rebellion against the mobile cities. Anna helps them escape from Thaddeus and his minions, and she takes them to a hidden city called Shan Guo.

In Shan Guo, Tom and Hester learn about the ancient technology that caused the Sixty Minute War and the dangers of the secret weapon that Thaddeus is developing. They also discover that Hester's mother had a key to a secret weapon that could destroy London. Thaddeus had murdered her mother to get his hands on the key, and now Hester and Tom must retrieve it before Thaddeus can use it.

The climax of the film takes place in London, where Thaddeus is planning to use the weapon to destroy Shan Guo and eliminate the rebellion. Hester and Tom sneak into London and retrieve the key, but they are captured by Thaddeus. Thaddeus reveals that he is Hester's father and tries to convince her to join him in ruling the world with the secret weapon. Hester refuses and escapes, and Thaddeus activates the weapon.

In a thrilling sequence, Hester and Tom race to stop the weapon from destroying Shan Guo. They are aided by Anna Fang and her airship, and they manage to destroy the weapon just in time. Thaddeus is killed in the explosion, and London is left stranded in the wasteland.

In the end, Tom decides to leave London and join the rebellion, while Hester stays behind to help rebuild the world. The film ends with London being cannibalized by other mobile cities, and Hester and Tom looking out at the ruins of the world, ready to start a new chapter in their lives.

Overall, "Mortal Engines" is a thrilling adventure that takes the audience on a wild ride through a post-apocalyptic world. The film is visually stunning, with impressive special effects that bring the mobile cities to life. The performances of the cast are strong, especially Hera Hilmar as
