Maura West and Scott DeFreitas" A brief history

Congratulations are in order for General Hospital actress Maura West who recently observed a milestone. She celebrated 22 years of marriage to her former As the World Turns co-star Scott DeFreitas. The couple met while working on the CBS soap and were married on January 22, 2000. ATWT was the first role for both West and her husband.

DeFreitas portrayed Andrew "Andy" Dixon the son of villain John Dixon (Larry Brygmann) and Kim Dixon Hughes (Katherine Hayes). His stepfather was the town hero Bob Hughes (Don Hastings). Scott was on ATWT from 1985 to 1995 and again from 1997 to 2000 until the series ended. Andy was once married to Denise Maynard who was portrayed by Cassandra Creech who recently joined the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful as Buckingham as Grace Buckingham.

DeFreitas was born on September 9th, 1969 and in addition to ATWT portrayed Jack Kellerhouse in Young People's Specials (1984-1985). Along with his two oldest children, Joseph and Katherine Scott performed in a reading for the musical "Hazel" along with Jane Noseworthy, Judy Nazemetz, Noah Meyers, and Zoe Calamar. There is no other information regarding other roles the actor may have had.

West was born on April 27, 1972 and portrayed Carly Tenney on ATWT beginning in 1995. Like her husband, she remained with the series until the finale on September 17, 2010. West began portraying Diane Jenkins the mother of Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) on The Young and the Restless that same year. She remained in the role until 2011 when the character was accidentally killed by Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). West began playing Ava Jerome on General Hospital in 2013.

West has been nominated 12 times for Daytime Emmy Awards and taken home 3 all for her work on As The World Turns. She was nominated for the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Villainess in 1996, and for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress 1999 and 2000. In 2001 she shared the honors of winning the award for Favorite Couple with her costar Michael Park who portrayed Jack Snyder.

She received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2001 and 2002. She received three nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2004, 2008, and 2009 and won the Award in 2007 and 2010. During the 32nd Daytime Emmy Awards, West and Park received a nomination for the Special Fan Award as Most Irresistible Combination.

General Hospital days

As Ava Jerome, West is beginning to mellow out now that she has found true love with Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma). The couple are fan favorites and have dynamic chemistry. They currently have their hands full as they are trying to keep Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) from destroying their family. They are also working together to get Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chaves) to fall in line.

Maura West: Acting is a family affair

Maura's first marriage was to director Jonathan Knight from 1995-2000 and they have a son, Benjamin who was born in 1996. West has four children with DeFreitas: Two sons: Joseph born in 2000, and Basil born in 2007, and two daughters Katherine born in 2002, and Birdie born in 2009. Joseph is a Broadway actor known for The Sound of Music Live! and The Crazy Ones both in 2013 and Boychoir in 2014. His stage name is Joe West. Katherine was in the 2015 television movie Weight and goes by the name Kate West. In 2014, West had a role in her first feature film, the horror flick Come Back to Me.
