Cynthia "Sin" Breaker used to be a lot of things. A werewolf. A mob enforcer for a powerful mage. A name feared on every street of Solar City. But now she's forcibly retired from all those things, trying to get over her past job and past loves. Zac Zero is a mage with their own agenda, and right now, item #1 is to hire some protection. Normally, Sin wouldn't look twice, but Zero may have the key to getting back the most important thing she ever lost: herself.

I rather like this issue and how we are not only introduced to the two main characters but also how they meet one another. We don’t get to see Zac’s agenda which I think is the smart thing, just that he’s sneaky and up to no good and isn’t afraid to impersonate his twin brother to get what he wants. Meanwhile Sin feels sorry for herself and is lost without the other half of her identity that’s been her meal ticket for so long and it’s this self-pity that will bring the two of them together. Two individuals who couldn’t be more different and yet have so much in common and I have a sneaky suspicion that the two are more like TNT when together.

I am enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information are presented extremely well. The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter does a marvellous job in establishing their personalities. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages introducing the characters, the story and the world they live in we are intrigued and want to see and learn more.

I am liking the way that we see this being structured and how the layers within the story begin to emerge and grow. I am also liking how we see these layers open up new avenues to be explored. Since it is the first issue there are a lot of avenues we see opening and it’ll be interesting to see which ones get explored to really flesh out the story and add that depth, dimension and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward are exceptionally well handled.

The interiors here are pretty nice. I’d like to see more backgrounds being utilised because when we do they do wonders in enhancing and expanding the moments. The way we see the composition within the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story are well rendered. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a talented eye for storytelling. The linework is clean, crisp and smooth and how the varying weights create the detail within the work is well handled. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a good solid understanding of how colour works.

I am definitely intrigued by the promise of what this story could hold. It has some great potential and it’s off to a fantastic start as we see what motivates the characters, if now exactly what the plans are. It is an interesting world that’s been created here and it generates this level of buzz and excitement surrounding it that makes the reader want to see what’s coming next. With some incredibly solid writing and sharp characterisation wrapped up some classic comic book style interiors it would appear Vault has another interesting hit on their hands.
