By Maria Llovet

For fans of Faithless and Die comes a new dark thriller from acclaimed writer & artist Maria Llovet about a young woman named Teresa, who's plagued by prophetic dreams that connect her to something powerful, something... divine. When Teresa fatefully crosses paths with the Family of the Sun, she believes them to be exactly what anyone else in the late '60s would expect -- a hippie cult whose leader claims to have met the divine. But secret blood rituals, powerful drugs and sex runneth amok will bring Teresa face-to-face with the truth about the Family, herself and the dark secret behind her dreams. Immortality, magic and alchemy, and the true power of enduring love collide in this new series for Mature Readers.

I’ve said it before, mainly during Heartbeat and Faithless, and I will gladly say it again and again, Maria is a treasure! She has such a marvelous imagination and the way she is able to get the reader to connect with the characters is nearly unmatched in today’s world. Thankfully she doesn’t do anything close to ordinary either and it’s this that amps up the excitement factor anytime we see her name on a new series. This is certainly no exception either as it is a far cry from whatever you think it may be.

Love the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is exquisitely presented. The fact that we enter this the way we do and how that raises more questions than there are answers only ups that intrigue factor as well as engages the readers’ mind and imagination in trying to figure it out on our own. The character development is interesting and while Teresa remains a mystery to us the characters she does meet are surprisingly easy to read even within moments of meeting them. There is something about this dichotomy that works so incredibly well and again it boggles the mind and makes the reader want to know more. The pacing here is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story, the characters and this world we're drawn deeper and deeper inside it all.

I am super impressed with how this is being structured and how the layers within the story begin to emerge. There are tangled vines within this story that pique the curiosity and make you want to dive deeper in. The way we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow is artistically done.

The interiors here are absolutely lovely. The linework is beautiful and how the varying weights are being utilised to create the detail work that we see is inspiring. I love that this is so 60’s psychedelically rendered and inspired. It is like looking at some old posters from the Haight-Ashbury era of the 60’s and it just evokes such powerful feelings and emotions. How backgrounds are being utilised within the composition of the panels to create some great depth perception, sense of scale and that overall sense of size and scope to the story is mindbogglingly well rendered. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such a talented and innovative eye for storytelling. The colour work is absolutely divine! Not only do we see some unique colour combinations but we’re reminded how the various hues and tones within colours can be utilised to create more than just how we see scenery. The shading, highlights and shadow work we see here is stupendous work and it just shows how incredibly talented Maria truly is and how well she understands how to utilise colour so effectively.

BOOM! Studios is home to some of the most extraordinary storytellers. Maria is one of those rare few whose unmistakable talent continues to thrive and grow thanks to BOOM! letting her do her thing for us.
