Things go sideways for the cult.

The entity possesses another.

The killing begins.

Well this certainly keeps things incredibly interesting. The opening is sure to capture your attention, which is exactly what it is supposed to do, and it makes you want to know more. The second opening segment is not as interesting as the third part of the opening. This is where Mr. Pinchon is being taken on a walk and it is here we start to learn a little more in depth about Lost Falls, where it is and how they got there. I’m very much enjoying how we start to see all of the aspects being connected to one another.

The way that we see this being told and how the various arcs keep running alongside each other, simultaneously, is something that just is eerie and the way Curt manages to not only maintain your attention, engage the reader but thrill you as well while all the while moving the story forward with such aplomb. How the three openings culminate in that single image that we see only leads to more questions and that’s what I am enjoying most, how answers lead to more questions so it feels like this isn’t going to end anytime soon.

I’m a huge fan of the way that we see this being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented is exceptionally well rendered. The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter which really help bring their personalities to the forefront. The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing more of the story the more we want to see and know.

I appreciate how we see this being structured and how we see the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen. The avenues that open up thanks to the layers we see add some great depth, dimension and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably achieved.

The interiors here are pretty darn stylised. There are times when the linework is rather thick and the detail is lost and other times when the linework in the faces are amazing. It’s an interesting overall effect to say the least. How we see backgrounds being utilised to enhance and expand the moments as well as how they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show an extremely talented eye for storytelling. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows an incredibly talented eye for how colour works.

The you know what really hits the fan this issue and it really takes this level of storytelling to a new place that we may or not be prepared to go. I’m excited for this part to be honest because it keeps me on my toes and I have no idea what is going to be happening next and not knowing, when it comes to storytelling, is a huge part of my enjoyment factor. A delightfully different and intriguing story that’s well written with excellent characterisation and unique interiors showcase why I love the diversity of styles at ComiXology Originals.
