Porky Pig and Beans

Everything old is new again lol n the world of animation. METV now offers Toon In With Me welds mornings ftom 7-8 AM where they offer classic Looney Tunes. The network also has old schools ol cartoons on Saturday mornings. HBO Max is now offering IHappy Harmonies. Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes on its streaming service. If you are a fan of these old school animated shorts then you are in luck. HBO Max streaming service has all the above beginning in 1933 and right through 2020.

Claude Cat and Goody Gofers

There is something for everyone but Baby Boomers especially will enjoy a trip down memory lane. There are old black and white shorts that feature the original large size Porky Pig and a character named Beans. There are many animated classics with characters that you might have forgotten over the years. Younger generations might assume that Looney Tunes are limited to Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck and crew but there is so much more. The early cartoons offer characters that will crack you up with slap stick dead pan humor.

Bosch and Bosch Honey seem to be missing.

Some of the jokes might be considered slightly offensive today but they were hilarious in the time in which they were created. The fat jokes about Porky pig and the slow speaking African Anerican male working the elevator sounding like Scatman Carothers might raise eyebrows. There actually have been some cartoons that have been pulled from the rotation because they were considered offensive to Native Americans. I may be wrong and could have missed it but I did not see one of my personal favorites which is Bosch and Honey.

I found this little black boy and his girlfriend cute and entertaining but to some they may have come across as stereotypical. As a matter of fact if I were a Caucasian making this statement I would probably be accused of racism and insensitivity. Truthfully most of the older animated classics gave us much insensitivity to anyone who was not an Anglo-American males. Looney Tunes are filled with cat calls and wolf whistles that women today don’t tolerate. There are also exaggerated accents for those who were French, Southern American, Irish, Scottish, Native American, or Asian and Blacks were often portrayed as slow and simpleminded.

Bugs and the gang.

Those of us who grew up with these stereotypical images often missed how offensive they really were. Thankfully I did not notice too much of the dark humor in the cartoons offers bu HBO Max and none at all on METV. Because of the culture today that brings more awareness to inappropriate behavior Infind my eyes are taking notice of animated sexism and racism that I once thought was cute. Overall, each person must decide for themselves but ai admit I love having so many Looney Tunes to choose from.

Droopy Dog

Baby Boomers ( Those born beteeen 1948 and 1964) will find a smorgasbord of classic animation that brings back fond memories as well as some Tunes they may have missed the first time around. Boomer Kids as a whole do not enjoy the newer versions of their favorite characters that have been made available in recent years. My grandchildren like the animated cartoons that have been produced during the past decade but thankfully my children grew up on the old school Looney Tunes and prefer the same ones that I do.

The good news is that the HBO Max cartoons run the range ftom 1934 until 2020 so there is something for everybody. METV appreciate s its Booner audience and they stick with the classics that we grew up on. If you find that you cannot obtain quality entertainment or you can’t find anything worth Binge watching Inhigjly recommend taking advantage of HBO’s classics. There simply is no end to the antics that will put a smile on your face and warm your heart. Break out the popcorn, have a seat and toon in to the best animated classics ever made.

Sylvester and Junior

If you can get past the political incorrectness I guarantee you will not be sorry. The racist past of Looney Tunes was disguised as humor and many of us missed it along they way. In today’s cancel culture I would be remiss not to mention it. I would have preferred to simply write about the fact that practically every Looney Tune ever created is now available on HBO Max but life is not that simple anymore.

There are also those who say the older animated programming promotes and normalizes alcoholism. Sometimes when I’m enjoying cartoon classics and my daughter stops by to visit she points out how degrading to women a certain episode is. I’ll tell her that I never thought of it that way. The bottom line is that if you are Adam of these classics but have become more socially conscious you might begin to question certain episodes you once enjoyed. Even so thetr are enough of these cartoons so everyone should find something they enjoy to please toon in.
