Professor Sybil Trelawney 71022-11

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11 Comparison

Professor Sybil Patricia Trelawny taught divination at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Many doubted her actual fortune telling skills. Probably because of her tendency to predict the horrible demise of her students. However, she was the one to make the prophecy concerning Harry Potter being the one to destroy Voldemort. She would have more revelations to prove she did actually possess the inner eye, but would probably never live up to her great-great-grandmother, the famous seer Cassandra Trelawney.

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11

Trelwany was given the new minifigure dress piece. I love this new design. The old 65 2X2X2 never looked right to me. By adding the curve down the back of the piece, the illusion of flowing fabric worked so much better. Sybill always seemed to embrace the crazy fortune teller look. I love the ornate design of her dress. The embroidery, tassels and layers of fabric are beautifully printed onto the front of this dress piece. While no printing on the back is to be expected, I was surprised nothing was added to the side of this piece.

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11 Torso Piece

The front of the torso piece was printed with amazing detail. Rather than just putting a random pattern on her dress, we get a tree. You can see the buttons running up the shirt and coming undone near the top. Three separate necklaces were put around her neck and you can see the similarity in the pendants to the ones she wears in the film. The drawstrings coming out her collar are yet another layer of detail that LEGO put in to match her onscreen appearance as much as possible. Again, I find myself surprised at the complete lack of detail on the side and back of this character.

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11 Head Piece

The original head piece looks great. Despite her hair completely covering the back side of her head, we only get one facial expression. Her peach lips have a slight smile and we can see her dark tan eyebrows just above her glasses. It’s those spectacles that help match the minifigure to the character it represents. Her thick glasses always had a bright glare reflecting off of them and they magnified her eyes to comical effect. The printing on the minifigure managed to capture all those details with only a few simple colors.

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11 Hair Piece

The original hair piece did a great job matching her crazy hair from the film. The nougat coloring used for the mid length bushy hair captured the disheveled appearance of Trelawny. I’m glad LEGO included her headband on the hairpiece. The smooth dark orange section has an olive green design printed on it. I think this may be my favorite hair pieces from this series.

LEGO Professor Sybil Trelawney Minifigure 71022-11 Accessory

Sybill has her trusty dark brown wand and a tea cup. In my past reviews, I usually mention how the tea cup accessory is overused and uninspired in the CMF series. For Sybill, that couldn't be further from the truth. At the time of its release, the tea cup had not been used a lot…yet. Even though the tea cup itself is a common white, the tea saucer had a flower and dot pattern printed all the way around it. This design looked great and made it an original piece only found in this set. Also, Professor Trelawney taught a lesson on divination through reading tea leaves. This makes the accessory a well thought out and appropriate piece connected to the character.

Cedric Diggory 71022-12

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Comparison

Cedric Diggory was a star student, loved by teachers and students alike. He was a prefect for the Hufflepuff House, a gifted seeker on the Quidditch team and the legitimate Hogwarts champion of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Sadly, Cedric was killed by Voldemort in a trap set for Harry Potter. For the CMF character, LEGO put him in his Tri-Wizard Cup uniform.

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Leg Piece

The leg piece could have simply used a solid dark bluish grey piece, but LEGO took the time to put two yellow lines down the side of his legs to match Cedric’s pants in the film. As an older student, he was given standard sized minifigure legs.

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Torso Piece

The Torso piece also did a spectacular job matching the clothing we see in the film. The half black, half yellow shirt is great. In the movie, Cedric had a black collar along the top of his shirt. You can see LEGO’s attempt at including this with black lines near the neck of the minifigure, but it just misses looking right. To give LEGO credit, round collars on a square minifigure is going to be tough. I love the Hogwarts crest placed on the upper left side of his chest. The back of the shirt has Diggory’s name printed across the top with a red star below it. By not missing this detail from the film, LEGO captured the team feeling on this uniform.

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Head Piece

Cedric was given one facial expression. While this cool confident smile fits the character’s personality, I feel a second expression was needed. Especially since, while Cedric competed in the competition, he faced a Dragon, mermaids, and came face to face with Voldemort.

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Hair Piece

The hair piece is a great match to the characters hair style in the film. It’s also long enough that it could have easily hidden that much needed second facial expression.

LEGO Cedric Diggory Minifigure 71022-12 Tri Wizard Cup Accessory

For his accessories, Cedric was given his magic wand and the Tri-Wizard Cup. As of the writing of this review, this is the only set to have this piece. This makes it not only unique but a great set piece for people looking to create scenes for their MOC or stop motion work. While not a great replication of the actual magical cup, it is a good LEGO representation that people will instantly recognize. Especially with TRI-WIZ-ARD printed across the front.

Professor Filius Flitwick 71022-13

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Comparison

LEGO went with the more human version of this part goblin professor. While the first film had Flitwick looking more like a goblin. The head teacher of the Ravenclaw House was not actually in the third film, The Prisoner of Azkaban. However, the new director of the film still wanted Warwick Davis to be part of the production. So, Warwick was hired for the role of “Wizard” and conducted the choir in one cameo scene. When the next movie was directed by yet another director, he loved the look so much that he made this Flitwick’s new appearance. (I’m sure it was cheaper and easier for Warwick to get into makeup too.) This retroactively changed the Wizard Chorus Conductor to Filius Flitwick.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Leg Piece

Flitwick was given the older, short, non-bendable kids legs in black for his minifigure. This was a great choice by LEGO, because these legs being slightly shorter than the new bendable kids legs made Flitwick shorter than most of his human students from this series.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Coat Tails

For his tuxedo, they gave him a paper coat tail. This regular sized piece looks huge on him, but the long tails falling behind him work well for his fancy wizard clothes.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Torso Piece

The torso piece continues the tuxedo design. The back jacket, grey vest and pinstripe white shirt are beautifully printed onto the front. Unfortunately the back is a solid black. It would have been nice to get some folds or creases, but that is probably me being way too picky.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Bow Tie

Rather than having a formal bowtie printed onto the torso, he was given a separate plastic piece to go over the neck peg.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Head Piece

The one face printed onto the head piece captures all those important details from the film. The big mustache is not as long and bushy as the one worn by Warwick Davis but great for a 2D printing onto a plastic figure. I love the big, hairy eyebrows. I appreciate how LEGO was able to replicate the pronounced chin with only a few extra lines. I am glad they printed the thin, silver, wire rim glasses onto the headpiece itself, instead of making it a separate piece. It would have been fun if LEGO would have put a goblin like design on the other side to represent the two different makeup designs over the course of the films.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Hair Piece

The hair piece does a nice job replicating that exaggerated part in Flitwick’s hair. The layers used in the headgear mold are impressive. We have a bowl cut around the top and then a shorter cut near the back of the neck. This piece could have easily hidden the second face printing that I wanted.

LEGO Professor Filius Flitwick Minifigure 71022-13 Accessories

Flitwick was given two accessories. He has a standard wand like all the other witches and wizards in the series. But since this Flitwick is based on him being a musical conductor, the wand can double as his baton. He was also given a megaphone piece. Personally, I am not a big fan of this accessory choice. His small stature made this piece look comically big and as a charms teacher there were over a dozen props that could have been used. However, I do see why LEGO chose this piece. It is their interpretation of the much smaller and fancier megaphone used in the film.

Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody 71022-14

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Comparison

Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody is the most famous Auror of all time. During the first Wizarding War, Moody continually proved his skills in battling dark wizards and was responsible for capturing many of the prisoners locked away in Azkaban. Even losing an eye, a leg and part of his nose could not stop him from continuing his fight against evil. No wonder Dumbledore asked him to teach the Defense Against the Dark Arts class at Hogwarts. Unfortunately, Bartemius Crouch Jr. managed to kidnap Moody and then use Polyjuice Potion to disguise himself and take Moody’s position as a Hogwarts’ professor.

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Leg Piece

The leg piece has Moody’s dark blue pants and the bottom of his long dart tan trenchcoat. Along with the black lines creating the form of the coat we also see the decorative circles running down the opening seams. I like that his prosthetic leg was created by having the left foot colored flat silver.

Original and CMF Moody Minifigure Comparison

While he does have a fake leg, we only see his metal shaped foot because the rest is covered by his pants. The pearl light gray peg leg used for the original Mad-Eye Moody minifigure in the 2005 Harry and the Hungarian Horntail set doesn’t really match the character we see in the movies.

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Torso Piece

The torso piece is where we get to see the amazing printing detail that LEGO puts into their CMF series. The dark tan trench coat clearly shows this oversized coat bunching up on the front and back. The buckles and straps to close the trench coat are an important detail, since this differs from the buttons typically printed on this type of clothing. I love that the metal buckles on the trench coat are copper and the ones on his leather jacket underneath are silver. The texture on that dark bluish grey jacket that zips up is fantastic. This piece is perfect when it comes to creating the thick layers of clothes Moody wears. He always wants to be well protected. Even in civilian life.

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Head Piece

For the original dual sided head piece, we don’t get two different facial expressions. Instead we get two different characters. The first side, as the set suggests, is that of Mad-Eye Moody. Here we can see that grizzled look of an old warrior. Dark orange is not only used for his age lines but also for the scars he has earned from his many battles. We know this is Moody’s head piece because of the reddish brown strap, with a gold ring holding his magical eye in place. While we would have to wait till his 2022 minifigure to get the electric-blue coloring, the CMF still managed to capture the crazy appearance of his magical eye that could rotate 360 degrees and see through anything…even invisibility cloaks. It is this eye that earned Alastor Moody his Mad-Eye nickname. The other face printing was that of Barty Crouch Jr. I think LEGO was a little too generous with the amount of stubble given to the face but that tongue sticking out the side is perfect for the mannerism of Crouch Jr. It not only shows his madness but also offers a visual clue to who was hiding under the Moody disguise. Fun fact, the tongue movement was improvised by actor David Tennant during his character development. That man is an acting genius. Another physical change LEGO managed to capture was the tan eyebrows of Moody are now reddish brown. The furrowed brow and arched eyebrows do a wonderful job showing us the deranged mental state of the character.

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Hair Pieces

The short and bushy hair parted on the left was designed for this minifigure. While the piece was original at the time, it would be available at the Build a Minifigure Station in a reddish brown color the following year. By 2022, the piece would start making its way into standard building sets and come in a variety of colors. At this time, Tan is only used by Moody and Thor. You can see the resemblance. All joking aside, the texture in the hair does a wonderful job matching his long untamed hair. Since it was not revealed till the very end of the story that Moody was actually Crouch Jr, the short, tousled reddish brown hair with a side part is listed as an accessory and not part of the character build. This piece appears in almost 400 sets and reddish brown is the third most popular color. It might be common but it is perfect for The Doctor. I mean Crouch Jr.

LEGO Alastor 'Mad-Eye' Moody Minifigure 71022-14 Accessories

With this single minifigure is actually two characters, it makes sense that he would come with so many accessories. As a wizard he needs his trusty dark brown minifigure wand. After losing his leg, Moody uses a walking stick to help get around. I’m a bit disappointed that LEGO simply used a common reddish brown 6L bar with a stop ring for this accessory. It works but the walking stick with a ram head at the top cloven hoof at the base is such a great character piece and doubled as a weapon in the story that I feel a new LEGO mold is justified. While the maraca piece was first introduced in 2010 for the Mariachi Maracha Man for CMF series 2, this is the first and only time we have gotten it with a reddish brown bulb and pearl gold bar. This piece is perfect for the hip flask Moody was constantly drinking from. This prop is not only important to the character but to the story as well. While everyone thought Moody was simply drinking alcohol from a flask because of PTSD from his job, it was actually Crouch Jr. drinking Polyjuice Potion to maintain his Moody disguise.

Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) 71022-15

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15

As the title character of the Harry Potter books and movies, Harry appears in almost every LEGO set for the Wizarding World Theme. Of course, he had to be included in the CMF series. This leads to a big problem of how to make him a collectable minifigure people will be excited for. LEGO found their answer with this minifigure. The minifigure has Harry Potter wearing his pajamas and more importantly, his invisibility cloak. Harry received the invisibility cloak from Professor Dumbledor during his first Christmas at Hogwarts. We soon learn that this cloak was actually owned by Harry’s father. We slowly are given more hints about this enchanted object's true origin. Invisibility Cloaks are rare and valuable garments that allow the wearing to become invisible, but they are enchanted pieces of fabric that break down with age, get damaged and lose their magic over time. Harry’s cloak is extremely old, still works perfectly and looks good as new. Near the end of the story we are led to believe that this is the Cloak of Invisibility from the Deathly Hallow fable. With the Elder Wand and Resurrection Stone found, we have little doubt left that Harry actually possesses the Deathly Hallow made from Death’s Cloak.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Leg Piece

I was surprised to discover that the short white leg piece with a light nougat feet pattern printed on the bottom was an original piece. This CMF series introduced the medium bendable leg piece to give shorter characters movement and a little more height than the older kid legs. However, this Harry Potter came with the older non-bendable short legs. I imagine this choice was made because the character is based on Harry’s first year at Hogwarts, when he was still a short little kid and not a short adult. I’m glad LEGO gave us an original piece, but a bit disappointed they didn’t add light blue stripes to match the torso piece and the pajama bottoms he wears in the film.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Torso Piece

I was not surprised that the torso was an original piece. The light blue vertical stripes printed onto the white plastic torso looks amazing. I love that these stripes are not only different thicknesses, but also not running perfectly straight down the torso. The collar opening at the top is also not crisply folded. You see the unevenness of the fabric line here and where it’s closed together with the pajama’s tan buttons. The messy look is continued onto the back. This is perfect for the pajamas of a kid who jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to start Christmas morning. My only complaint about this toros is that the arms were left completely white. I am assuming this was a limitation of the printing process of the time, rather than laziness by the LEGO design team.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Head Piece

The single sided printed face can only be found on this minifigure. The thin black glasses, black eyebrows and lighting scar are standard for Harry Potter minifigures. Even the line under his lip is commonly used. It’s that big smile showing all his teeth that makes this facial expression unique. Clearly someone likes their Christmas gift.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Hair Piece

The hair piece brings us to our first common piece. Bricklink describes this hair piece as thick and messy. While the piece comes in a few different colors, black appears the most often. That’s because this piece is used on 25 different Harry Potter minifigures alone. It first appeared in 2018 Harry Potter sets and did not appear outside the theme until 2019, so it was probably specifically designed for his character.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Invisibility Cloak Piece

The reason for getting this minifigure was because of the invisibility cloak. When this series came out in 2018, it was an original piece. In 2022 another invisibility cloak was released in the Dumbledore’s Office set number 76402. Bricklink still has these two cloaks listed as two separate pieces and I do not have the Dumbledore’s Office set to compare the cloaks, but looking at the images I can’t find a difference in the patterns or colors beyond the brightness of the picture taken. Original or not, it’s still a great piece all these years later. The shiny iridescent outside is a great substitute for fabric that is supposed to be invisible. It captures that magical look and reflective powers of invisibility. The ornate pattern on the underside looks fantastic. The stars, moons and mystical patterns not only give us a magical feel but it also matches the fabric of the cloak we see in the film. This is definitely the Deathly Hallow cloak from the film.

LEGO Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) Minifigure 71022-15 Pajamas and Wand

Since the Cloak is considered part of the minifigure’s outfit, the only accessory that came with the set is Harry’s dark brown wand. While the wand doesn’t feel special today, this mold was first introduced the year this CMF series came out.

Professor Albus Dumbledore 70122-16

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Comparison

As the headmaster at Hogwarts and the only person Voldemort fears, Professor Albus Dumbledore was an integral part of the Harry Potter storyline. It is no surprise that he would be included in the first series of Wizarding World minifigures. For this minifigure, LEGO decided to put him in his lightblue wizarding robes.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Dress Piece

Dumbledore was given the new curved dress piece. I love how this piece gives the figures or more curved flowing fabric appearance than the older straight lined triangular pieces. The detail in the front is amazing. The creases in the fabric give life to the clothing. The detailed printing of diamonds and swirls on the scarf are awe inspiring. Even the little tassels on the ends look great.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Torso Piece

This amazing detail continues onto the torso piece. The flowing robe and clasps on the vest have a lot of great detail. Especially since most of this design will be hidden by his long beard piece. With so much detail on the front, I was surprised that nothing was printed on the back.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Beard Piece

The long, tied light bluish grey beard piece was a new piece for this minifigure. It is such a great replication of Dumbledore’s beard that it is no surprise it would be used again the following year for the Dumbledore minifigure in the Hogwarts Clock Tower set.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Head Piece

He was only given one facial expression, but because the beard covers so much of his face, this is not a distraction. We do get to see his big bushy brows, wrinkled forehead and some gray to fill in the beard. The tiny glasses with his eyes peaking over perfectly replicates that knowing look Dumbledore is often giving when talking to others.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Hat Piece

Dumbledore's hat piece has his long light bluish grey hair attached to it. The hat itself has some great small details. The gold tassel on top is a nice contrast to the mostly sand blue and grey coloring. It’s the shape that impressed me the most. Rather than making it perfectly round, you can see the fabric bunching up on the side.

LEGO Professor Albus Dumbledore Minifigure 70122-16 Accessories

For his accessories, he was given his standard wand piece and a pensieve. This bowl was created by using a 3X3 flat silver dish piece with a light blue swirl printing on the inside. It was instantly recognizable as the shallow basin used by wizards to view past memories of themselves and others. This amazing piece is only available in this set.

Newt Scamander 71022-17

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Comparison

Newt Scamander is a famed magizoologist, who wrote the famous book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He would be used as the central character to a new Wizarding World franchise using the same name.

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Leg Piece

The leg piece has his dark brown pants and the bottom of his long blue jacket. They did a great job lining up the printing on this let piece with the rest of his outfit on the torso piece. This is especially noticeable, because they gave the jacket a trim, rather than using a single solid color.

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Torso Piece

The torso piece was given a lot of care in its design. If you should lose this piece in a pile of loose bricks, you can easily find and identify it as Newt’s. Not that any of us spend hours trying to find a single piece in a mountain of LEGO. The light down vest, button down dress shirt and bow tie look amazing. LEGO even made sure he has his pocket watch safely tucked into his vest. It’s the inclusion of his pet bowtruckle pickett that put this piece over the top. What a great way to bring another magical creature into the LEGO world.

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Head Piece

The head piece features Newt’s big dorky smile. While this expression captures Newt’s expression perfectly, it’s the only face given. This is a shame, since his hair piece could have easily hidden a second printing.

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Hair Piece

The spiky hair piece does a nice job simulating the unkept hair of Newt Scamander. I love the way this medium nougat hair looks on the minifigure.

LEGO Newt Scamander Minifigure 71022-17 Accessories

Since the CMF series does not come with a buildable set, the accessories are just as important as the figures themselves. Newt had some of the best accessories found in this series. While almost all the characters come with a wand, Newt’s is the only one to come in a dark orange color. They could have recycled the old suitcase mold, but LEGO created a new suitcase for this series. This one is bigger and has two gold clasps. Since Newt’s suitcase is such a big part of the story, I am glad LEGO took the time to make this piece special. The accessory that wins the competition is the small niffler creature piece. It might not be original to this set, it is a great piece to have so you can add to your LEGO magical creature collection.

Tina Goldstein 71022-18

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Comparison

Porpentina Goldstein is simply referred to as Tina. She worked as an Auror for the Magical Congress of the United States. Tina was shortly removed from her post, after she witnessed Mary Lou beat her adopted son Credence Bareone and magically assaulted her in front of muggles. She would later be reinstated after helping arrest Gellert Grindelwald. She would meet Newt Scamander while investigating the New Salem Philanthropic Society. They would fall in love and eventually get married. This particular minifigure is based on when they first met.

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Leg Piece

LEGO used 3 different colors to create Tina’s leg piece. The outside is a sand blue color to continue her long trench coat. I love that LEGO not only put creases in the fabric as it comes down, but also made it uneven at the bottom. This helps it look more like loose pieces of fabric than a stiff material. The dark bluish grey center shows us the bottom of her under jacket. The boots are a solid black.

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Torso Piece

The torso piece also does a wonderful job of creating the layers of clothing worn by Tina in the film. Our first layer has her white blouse and locket. We then see her dark bluish grey jacket buttoned closed at the waist. It’s that long trench coat that really impressed me. LEGO not only took the time to put buttonholes on one side of the jacket, but they put 4 holes on the button themselves to show where they are sewn onto the fabric. The back has the seam down the back where the fabric comes together but also along the neck and shoulders.

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Head Piece

Tina was given two facial expressions. One shows us the small toothy smile as she lets her guard down and shows us her softer side. The other is the unamused expression of a witch who takes her job of upholding the law and protecting the magical world seriously. I like how well LEGO was able to recreate the sculpted eyebrows of the character.

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Head Gear Piece

Her hat piece is the exact same mold we saw in the 2016 LEGO Dimensions Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Fun Pack 71257 (Tina Goldstein and Swooping Evil). Instead of being a dark bluish grey hat, it’s now a dark blue hat. I think this color better represents the cloche hat she wears in the film. No matter what the color, LEGO did a great job with shaping the soft folded brim of this hat. We can see her dark brown hair sticking out the bottom.

LEGO Tina Goldstein Minifigure 71022-18 Accessories

Her hotdog accessory is a reference to the first time we see Tina in the film. Newt Scamander bumps past her as she is on a case and observing the New Salem Philanthropic Society. While blending into the crowd, she is eating a large hotdog covered in mustard. There is nothing unique about a LEGO hotdog, but it is a nice tie into her sister Queenie Goldstien and Jacob Kowalski who’s minifigures also come with food accessories.

Jacob Kowalski 71022-19

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Comparison

Jacob Kowalski was a No-Maj who fought in the First World War. He always dreamed of being a baker. When we went to apply for a loan at the Street National Bank his world would change forever. While his loan for a bakery was rejected, he would meet Newt Scammander. Upon meeting Newt, Jacob discovered the world of magic, made a new best friend and found Queenie, the love of his life.

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Leg Piece

Jacob comes with a solid dark bluish gray leg piece. While there is nothing special about this piece, it does match the simple slacks worn by Jacob Kowalski in the film

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Torso Piece

The torso piece is anything but simple. The Jacket is the same dark bluish gray color used for the pants. LEGO made sure to include buttons, button holes and a pocket on his jacket. The sand blue vest is where the skill of the LEGO design team really shines. The buttons going down in an uneven line, ending with the last button open and small curved lines give a natural look to these clothes being worn by a larger framed man. The white collared shirt brings another layer of clothing to replicate the outfit worn in the film. They even put white spots on his red tie to make sure no detail was overlooked. I was shocked the back was a solid color. Some seams or wrinkles in the fabric to show us his rounder stature would have been nice.

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Head Piece

LEGO added a lot of detail to the head piece. Those thick eyebrows on top were a must. The actor who played Jacob, Don Fogler, is such an animated performer that expressive eyebrows were a huge part of the character. The small mustache looks great. I love getting different styles of facial hair, for custom minifigure work. The little toothy smile is a perfect match to Jacob. LEGO put medium nougat sagging lines under his eyes and chin, to give him a chubby face. Unfortunately, I think it just makes the character look like he has bags under his eyes and is extremely tired.

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Hair Piece

The slicked back, dark brown hair with a widow’s peak and sideburns looks nice and is used a lot in the Wizarding World theme. This exact piece is used for the Tom Riddle minifigure and a reddish brown version is used for Cedric Diggory.

LEGO Jacob Kowalski Minifigure 71022-19 Accessories

I loved the accessories that came with this minifigure. The reddish brown suitcase with gold clasps was a brand new piece designed for this CMF series. It is the same case used for Newt and it would not be used again until Fred Weasley came out in series 2. Inside, Jacob carries samples of his baked goods he hopes to sell at his bakery. We get two different printed 1X1 round tiles to give us a variety of options. One is made to look like a cinnamon roll and the other is a unique pastry pattern. As of this review, this is still the only place you can find either of these printed pieces.

Queenie Goldstein 71022-20

LEGO Queenie Goldstein Minifigure 71022-20 Comparison

Queenie is the sister and best friend of Tina Goldstein. She has the ability to read people’s emotions and memories. She would fall in love with the muggle Jocob Kowalski. It was this taboo relationship that would cause Queenie to make some questionable decisions and side with Grindlewald.

LEGO Queenie Goldstein Minifigure 71022-20 Leg Piece

The amount of detail in Queenie’s leg piece is fantastic. The fashion of the 1920s is so distinct and her outfits in the film were extremely elaborate. We are already seeing this style in the leg piece. The bottom of the dress is printed onto the legs and had tiny holes to create the lacy trim. Rather than having straight lines along the bottom for her shoes, LEGO made them wavy on the side to give them the illusion of having high heels.

LEGO Queenie Goldstein Minifigure 71022-20 Torso Piece

The torso piece continues this attention to detail. On the lower part of the fabric you will notice some blue lines. These are not creases but thicker parts of the fabric that were in the actual dress worn by Queenie. The sheer see through fabric on top was created by using thick black lines. Underneath the dress we can see her pink blouse. I love how LEGO layers clothes on their minifigures. I appreciate all the detail put on the front is also on the back. Her short hair style makes back printing very important.

LEGO Queenie Goldstein Minifigure 71022-20 Head Piece

The head piece does a good job showing off Queenie’s big smile and makeup. The lipstick, eyeshadow and sculpted eyebrows do a great job capturing this character's on screen appearance. I love the lines they put on the side of her mouth to form that big smile we often saw on Queenie.

The hairpiece is a great match to Queenie’s hair style. This particular mold has been used on a lot of LEGO minifigures and been used by all the Queenie minifigures so far.

Queenie comes with her wand and a loaf of bread. The bread is a nice character piece because it ties her with her sister Tina, who comes with a hotdog, and her love interest Jacob Kowalski who wants to be a baker and comes with a briefcase full of pastries.

Credence Barebone 71022-21

LEGO Credence Barebone Minifigure 71022-21 Comparison

Credence was adopted by Mary Lou Barebone. She was the leader of an anti-witchcraft group known as No-Maj. This caused Credence to fear and repress his magical abilities. By not embracing his magic, he developed a dark parasitic force known as an Obscurus. He would be overcome by this force and transform into a destructive Obscurial. While I was not happy to discover there would only be 2 Credence Barebone minifigures per box, I was pleased that not many people were looking for him, thus he was easy to find.

The leg piece is a solid dark bluish grey color. A rather plain piece for a collectable minifigure character.

LEGO Credence Barebone Minifigure 71022-21 Torso Piece

The front of the torso piece is where the LEGO design team’s talent shined. Credence was dressed nice, but it clearly lacked the wealth of a finely tailored outfit. The visible stitching around the seams of the outfit highlighted the design and the lack of smooth outlines. The striped vest under the jacket was formal but not perfectly straight, to show the lack of elegance in his ensemble. The small tie knot and collar were perfect replication of his film appearance. Unfortunately the back of this torso was completely plain and no detail was given at all.

Credence was given two faces. The first is the sad face of a boy who clearly feels like he doesn’t belong in this world. The other face represents him changing into the Obscurial. To accomplish this illusion, LEGO gave him large round white eyes, with a silver outline. This represents the raw magic that is escaping his body. His mouth is slightly open as the magic pours out of him.

The hair piece is the same one used for the Beatles in the Yellow Submarine set. While not original, it perfectly matches the character’s haircut in the film.

For his accessory, he has a 1X2 printed white tile piece. The image shows three witches dancing around a fire in the forest. Above this image is the word witches written in red font and then the line “live among us” below it. This is a perfect design for the No-Maj pamphlet warning people about the evils of witchcraft.

Percival Graves 71022-22

LEGO Percival Graves Minifigure 71022-22 Comparison

Percival Graves was an Auror and Director of Magical Security in the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He accuses Newt of working for the dark wizard Geralt Grindelwald. He was portrayed by actor Colin Farrell. However, at the end of the film, he was actually Grindelwald in disguise. When his true identity was revealed, audiences saw actor Johnny Depp portraying the role of the evil wizard. He was 1 of the 6 characters LEGO chose to represent the new Wizarding World expansion to the Harry Potter theme. It was also the minifigure LEGO decided to make the chase figure. That means there was only 1 Percival Graves in a full box of CMF bags. This made him an instant collector item.

LEGO Percival Graves Minifigure 71022-22 Leg Piece

The leg piece black leg piece had the bottom of Percival’s flowing robes printed onto the front. The blending of the fashion of the time with the wizarding robes of the world were so well blended together for this costume, I am glad we are seing some of that design on the leg piece.

The multiple layers of clothes worn by Percival were impressively captured using two-dimensional printing. The colors were subtle but still made the outfit come to life. The back of the torso was simple done but gave the impression of real clothes being worn. I love the decorative back belt put onto his robe. LEGO even took the time to put the white lines down the sides of the arms to give that exaggerated cuff look that Percival had in the film.

I’m not sure the face is a close resemblance to Colin Farrell, but they did manage to capture his thick black eyebrows. Since Percival Graves was actually Geralt Gredelwald in disguise the second face design is a completely different character and not a simple facial expression. My favorite part of his face is the white mustache, because actor Johnny Depp is known for styling his facial hair for the different characters he plays in films. When I first got this figure, I thought I had rubbed part of the printing off his right eye when I was feeling the blindbag. I then realized that his faded eye was actually LEGO’s way of trying to make the eyes match the different shades Grindelwald had in the film.

LEGO Percival Graves Minifigure 71022-22 Hair Pieces

The slicked back hair with a ring a grey around the bottom not only matches the character but it’s also a great hair piece for custom minifigure work. This original headgear piece is only available with this minifigure. A second hair piece was given for the Gredelwald side of the head. This white, slicked back hair was unimpressive and is a common piece. However, it was the two hair pieces in the blind bag that allowed people to tell what character was inside.

LEGO Percival Graves Minifigure 71022-22 Accessories

The second white hair piece was actually listed as an accessory instead of part of the minifigure. Since it was advertised as Percival Graves and not Grindelwald, this makes sense. For that reason, the only other pierce for the minifigure in the bag was his dark tan wand.

Final Thoughts

When this CMF series came out in 2018, I loved it. It not only relaunched a theme that I missed, but also came with some great upgrades. The new wand accessory was amazing. The medium bendable legs were a great addition to the versatility of LEGO minifigure. The new lower body dress pieces were a fantastic upgrade from the older straight angled piece used before. However, as the years go on, this series becomes less desirable. The characters are being seen in more sets and no longer unique. The newly redesigned pieces are used so much that they are now common. For me, this series also represents LEGO greed. Collectors had to buy 22 minifigures instead of the typical 16 of the time. Percival Graves had only 1 minifigure per box and many more like Credence Barebone and Invisibility Cloak Harry Potter were also limited to only a couple per box.
