The town of Mystic Falls has a new generation of protectors in this spin-off of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals.” The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted is home to Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter Hope, Alaric Saltzman’s twins Lizzie and Josie, and other young adults who are coming of age as witches, vampires and werewolves, nurtured to be their best selves and overcome their villainous impulses. Together, they rely on ancient folklore and tales to learn how to battle their far-reaching enemies and attempt to keep balance in the world

Legacies is an American fantasy drama television series, created by Julie Plec, that premiered on The CW on October 25, 2018. It is a spin-off of The Originals and features characters from both that series and its predecessor, The Vampire Diaries. Danielle Rose Russell stars as the 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson, continuing the role she originated in the fifth and final season of The Originals. Matt Davis also features prominently in the series, reprising his role as Alaric Saltzman from The Vampire Diaries. The third season premiered on January 21, 2021.[2] In February 2021, The CW renewed the series for a fourth season which is set to premiere on October 14, 2021.[3][4]

Legacies follows Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, who is descended from some of the most powerful vampire, werewolf, and witch bloodlines. Two years after the events of The Originals, 17-year-old Hope attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. The school provides a haven where supernatural beings can learn to control their abilities and impulses.[5][6]

Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson: a teenaged orphan and student at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted who is descended from some of the most powerful vampire, werewolf, and witch bloodlines via her parents, Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall. The character was first introduced on The Originals.[7]

She returns in “This Is Why We Don’t Entrust Plans to Muppet Babies” before leaving again with Dorian in “There’s a Place Where Lost Things Go”. She makes a guest appearance in “A New Hope”.

Ben Geurens as the Necromancer: one of the creatures from Malivore who has the power to bring back the dead

Ebboney Wilson as Kym (season 2): Kaleb’s human sister with whom MG begins a relationship

Bianca Kajlich as Sheriff Mac (season 2–3): the new sheriff in Mystic Falls, as she has taken over the job from Matt Donovan when the latter is elected mayor. She is also the mother of Ethan and Maya.[17] She leaves town with Maya, and relocates to Florida, after Alaric allows her to maintain her memories of the supernatural nature of Mystic Falls in the episode “Hold on Tight”.

Alexis Denisof as Professor Vardemus (season 2): the temporarily new headmaster of the Salvatore School, before the position is given back to Alaric. He remains at the school as a teacher.[19]

Riley Voelkel as Freya Mikaelson (in “That’s Nothing I Had to Remember”): Hope’s aunt and a powerful witch. The character was first introduced on The Originals.[24]

Chris Wood as Kai Parker (in “Kai Parker Screwed Us” and “You Can’t Save Them All”): Josie and Lizzie’s evil maternal uncle. The character was first introduced on The Vampire Diaries.[25]

Jodi Lyn O’Keefe[26] as Jo Laughlin (in “Mombie Dearest”): Alaric’s deceased ex-fiancée, and Josie’s and Lizzie’s biological mother. The character was first introduced on The Vampire Diaries.

Ayelet Zurer as Seylah Chelon (in “Maybe I Should Start from the End”): Landon’s mother[27]

Jedidiah Goodacre as Roman (in “Let’s Just Finish the Dance”, “I’ll Tell You a Story”): Hope’s former boyfriend who was involved in the death of her mother. The character was first introduced on The Originals.[28]

Summer Fontana as young Hope Marshall (in “A New Hope”): A younger Hope, from when Lizzie and Josie were 11 years old; Fontana first played Hope on The Originals.[29]

As a fan of the entire line of shows that Julie Plec has made, I'm on the fence about this.

By now, Julie has proven that she's not good at finishing stories on a strong note and she's notorious for giving us half-baked endings. The only reason I decided to check this out is because I love Danielle Rose Russell as Hope. She quickly rubbed off on me because her and Joseph Morgan had absolutely fantastic chemistry in The Originals.

Now then, back to Legacies. I watched both episodes so far and it was decent... I expected a lot more considering that Julie said "this is the show she always wanted to make". So far, it's not even remotely as interesting as The Originals or even The Vampire Diaries within the first 4 seasons.

After giving us that sweet but very insulting ending to The Originals, Julie's gotten off to a pretty bad start because she had so many things she could've done. Seeing as Klaus was my favorite character (and is a fan favorite across the board), him being gone drastically reduced my interest in the series. Every time I watch the show, I pray to the lord that Klaus comes back in some shape or respect, but since Joseph has moved on, I can only hope that the show just gets better from here on out.

So far, I only care about Hope and Alaric. Don't care much about the other characters.

And this segways into what I think is the biggest problem: wasted potential. If Julie had ended The Originals differently, I guarantee this show would be a hit. My ending is as follows:

Elijah accepts all of the Hollow's magic and dies with it, allowing him to be with Hayley. However, because Elijah isn't as powerful as Klaus, a catch could be that Klaus is forced to remain in his wolf form (which would've answered the age old question of what he would look like in wolf form). That way, they wouldn't have to have Joseph on as a regular and he could come back whenever he feels like it and instead, they could just have a wolf which we would all know to be Klaus. Klaus can then watch over Hope as a wolf and there can even be times where Hope converses with him and he gives her advice in his own way. I'm sick of the whole lack of parents trope and after the god awful life she's lived through The Originals, she should've gotten a happier set up.

With Klaus as a wolf and with Marcel, Kol and Rebekah gone on their own paths, Klaus literally has nothing to worry about except to be a dad. The fact that Klaus was willing to die for Hope should've been evidence enough that he's truly changed and even if he didn't, who better to change him that his Hope?

I'm skeptical. Danielle is the only reason I'm interested right now and this show has a LONG way to go if it plans to keep me watching. Right now, I'm angry at Julie for wasting so much damned potential, but all I can do is hope that she doesn't soil the series any further. Candice King is coming back, so that's something to look forward to but apart from that, I don't see this show's future being very bright.

I love Legacies , great series , I use to think Vampire Diaries & The Originals will end one day eventually, and what I am going to watch, which other series have that kind of charismatic , adventure & fantasy all in one.

I am really grateful to all crew members who put hard work in bringing up this series .

I see some people are not pleased , to them I want to bring a kind message ,Legacies stars kids not exactly grown up . And its good picturization of them.Finding there way in the world , learning from there mistakes. And eventually they will grow up following in the footsteps of great personality. There is a time for everything I am sure everyone's expectations will be met at some point.

I appreciate both negative and a positive comments , it helps in developing a great series which will be remembered for a long time.

Once again thank you Legacies team for great series it always fun to watch.

I love this show as hell😍😍😍 .Just disappointed its ending so soon😣.But its my best TV show so far especially episode 10😆😂😍😋.To be honest I think that this show is awesome. It took time for VD to become that awesome.I think people should at least try and wait for the story to unravel itself first. Those claiming that this TV show is boring are not really following its arrangement.Everyone is expecting something similar to originals and VD and thats why they are not enjoying the show. But I thank julie for always surprising us with her unique strategy. The vampire diares was about love, the originals was about family and this awesome spinoff is about friendship try and keep up people.lol😉😉.

BTW this weeks episode is now my favourite, this are the kind of twists that make julie plec awesome I mean criazly did y'all expect such an ending finally hope is no longer a supernatural loner.Kinda of funny if you ask me, a tribrid who claimed to be the only one of her kind dating another supernatural who's the only one of he's kind I mean men come on a Phoenix 🙌👏👍 julie you are a unique icon. This is exactly what I was saying .The story has just started unravelling😋.

Even if Legacies does get decent watches and lasts longer than a season, you have to realize Julie Plec is doing this. The same women who directed both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries - both of which started to go down hill at a certain point and had poor/rushed endings and death scenes. I bet money that Legacies will be the same thing that the cast people will come to love will meet an unfortunate end and Hope will probably (or one of the gay characters as they usually do) will die or someone will die protecting someone they love. She does this every time, not mention be prepared for the storyline to get sluggish.....

What would have been better and could have helped the show out too (Alternate version). Klaus drops her off at the Salvatore school because New Orleans has been too dangerous for his daughter and it is what Haley would have wanted. He, Freya, and Marcel drop her off at school (because why make Hope an Orphan? There is way too many of that. Just make her a strong independent female. For once can we have someone with parents). Klaus makes a joke of if she needs him he'll always come back and Hope makes a joke of him rampaging. Klaus laughs saying 'no promises' they have their hug and he tells her 'this is your journey now, your mom would be proud' then he leaves. Freya and Marcel say their good byes and BAM you give Hope her show BUT you aren't killing people mercilessly FOR HOPE. So that way at the end of Season one or two or when Legacies ratings go down you can always call back Klaus, but otherwise, Klaus would be New Orleans protecting his kingdom being a dad on the side and that wouldn't mean he would need to intervene AT ALL. That could have also worked...

This is a great show. I love how it showcases the talents of so many young actors it really brings legitimacy to the age groups they are portraying. The man thing it suffers from is some serious continuity holes due to the massive history it is inheriting from TVD and the Originals. For instance .. Hope is in danger monsters coming out the wood work .. Uncle Kol or aunt Rebekah .. Marcel .. Freya none of these super powerful people who love her show up to lend a hand?

That just makes no sense add to that the torturing us with teased cameo's things like oh duh we know Damon was going to buy a bar we see Alaric talking to someone off screen at a bar in a total he and Damon esque setting and its Dorian .. way to piss people off. Because this guy with a hundred and seventy years of life experience who is supposed to be one of his best friends never gets the call when he needs help?

In the end I know this due to the general snobbery and ungrateful nature of most of the original cast but it just leaves holes in the story that glare. For me the worst one is the lack of Caroline she is not the type to stay absent for all of her kids big things regardless of mission.

The other thing is I think Julie Plec has wronged her franchise fans so much they are weary. I mean she puts together a good show but she always caves to fan pressure we never get a definitive end we always get some cop out that really pleases very few people.

I think its like why invest so much of yourself in the show if the other two already taught you the wrap up is gonna suck? TVD she genuinely just coped out on us she couldn't handle the pressure and she gave us some ambiguous junk.

The originals .. barely got an ending she was so focused on Legacies she just kind of rushed it through. Daniel Gillies as much as said this in an interview. She just used the originals as a pilot for legacies and gave us an ending that made absolutely no damn sense. There were a thousand ways Klaus and Elijah didn't have to die the woman simply cannot write an ending.

I have high hopes for this show, it has potential but they need to either amp up the writing so people forget the major plot holes or fill a few of them. Honestly Julie Plec needs to get her head out of her ass and give people closure because I think thats part of the problem shes continued a world were she has already written two stories that gave the fandom no closure at all and they are still looking for it.

Another magical student high school drama where students, especially female ones, explicitly identified as sixteen years old, are plainly in their twenties and act like it. EARNEST SUGGESTION: if you are just starting to watch Legacies, don't read the rest of this review. You'll enjoy it a lot more. There, you've been warned.

A good binge watch. It does have plenty of flaws: consistent over-acting, slightly excessive scene shifting, and a tad too many rides on the puppy love roller coaster. The plots are obvious enough that you miss very little by giving it only some of your attention, leaving you free to knit sweaters or polish silverware at the same time. The central and by far most engaging character, Hope, is played by the remarkably pretty Danielle Rose Russell. Don't expect to see her in a Season Two however. The series comes to a pointed conclusion with a noble act of self sacrifice that not only terminates Hope's life, but wipes the memory of her existence from the minds of everyone who ever knew her. Very saddening, really.

I have watched TVD for season 1-6 and TO, so I was elated to hear that there is another spin off in the same universe. I have just finished watching season 1. I am shocked. And as a fan of the previous shows, I am not disappointed. Just keep an open mind when you watch Legacies and think of it a teen drama, it is nice to have a show in the Vampire Diaries universe that is more light-hearted.

The part where I enjoyed most is watching the story arc of Hope. We have known her character for so long, from how she is conceived to what she has become now, the actress Danielle Rose Russell has portrayed her perfectly. She is the reason why I enjoy Legacies so much. It is so cool to see her powers but I think she can use some of her werewolves skills and vampire power more as we can only see her witch side, the fact that there is no limitation to her character just make the whole show more fun to watch, but it doesn't matter now anyway as spoiler alert : [HOPE IS GONE!]

Originally, I was not so keen on other characters of the show as I am only familiar with Hope, but as I stick to watching the whole season, they warm up to me, especially Lizzie. Besides, Landon's character has successfully intrigued me, one of the biggest mystery of season 1 is his background story, who his father is, but I am not here to spoil things for you so go and watch it yourself. After the big reveal, I understand the whole story plot, it makes sense, but I am just not too convinced, at first I am just glad that Hope finally can have someone by her side who will not die on her, but it doesn't matter now anyway as spoiler alert : [HOPE IS GONE!]

Although it is a separate show, I enjoy how the old characters were brought up, those easter eggs really warmed my heart, it is good to know how The Originals vampires are doing by having some name drops. It is a big relief to know how Klaus is doing after TO. Hope to see their faces in season 2, especially if they can spend some quality time with Hope, it is so sad that she has to go through all that in a boarding school but not with her family as if she comes back in season 2.

P.S Don't kill off any important characters this time! I thought I was going have to wait until the final season to see more character died but guess what I am wrong, Hope is just like her father, choosing the same path We have had enough heartbreak for Stefan, Klaus and Elijah! Bring her back in season 2, I want others to remember her, I can't bear it to see when Hope comes back in Season 2 and to know that everyone she loves forgets her, it is too heartbreaking to watch.

Generally, Legacies is an enjoyable show with many twists and turns, it is hard to get surprised these days, but Legacies has many twists and turns that will surprised you, so I would recommend you to watch it, it doesn't matter if you are a fan of precious shows or not.

When you watch TVD for the first time, the pilot episode, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters and want to know them forwards and backwards. Then TO comes along and it’s the same thing. The chemistry is so strong and you find yourself waiting for the next episode.. (Spoilers if you haven’t watched them). Julie Plec has a way of Killing off almost every major character she comes in contact with. Why not just have Freya slow down the evil in Klaus while he and Caroline go off looking for a cure.. that woulda opened the doors for cameos and explained where Caroline is vs avoiding that subject all together. I have no doubt when this show ends she will probably off Alaric, possibly Matt and Jeremy. Just remember if you love a character try not to get too attached. But the show itself has me on the fence. It’s not bad, it’s just not what I expected. It revolves around an old knife that all these Supernatural beings seem to be coming for. We don’t know why yet. Till then I’m hanging in there to see where this goes. I don’t even care to catch this one live. I usually watch it on demand when I remember I missed an episode after someone posts on twitter. In fact I even thought it came on Wednesday lol. My bad, Thursday’s. Give it a go but if you haven’t seen TVD or TO you will be so lost. Start with TVD and fall in love with the Salvatore’s like the rest of us!!

If I'm being completely honest, the Legacies is an okay show. I mean it's similar to the Vampire Diaries with the whole different enemies and things and trying to find places and whatnot but the show is kind of boring. Hope is all depressed and attitudinal for no reason at all. Josie and Lizzie are kinda iffy and Penelope and Josie's relationship is just straight complicated. They were together we kind of got that but..what happened? There's no backstory to any of that. Also, I'm sure a lot of people like me were shipping Handon or Lope or whatever you wanna call Landon and Hope but then you sent Landon away so..that sucked.

Now, Hope is upset that bother her parents and her uncle are dead. So am I but, wouldn't it contribute better to the plot line of the show if Hope got to see one of her deceased relatives or maybe just Marcel, Rebekah, Kol, or even Davina. Help her learn more about her family because when you watch the Originals you can see that for most of life from newborn to 7 she hand her powers retained and was being chased by her crazy great-aunt, Dahlia. Then when she turned 7 she then met Klaus and the Mikaelsons but got possessed by the Hollow. So she only really got her dad for about a month or two. Then, when the hollow was out of Hope it was in the Mikaelson siblings which caused them to have to move away from Hope and Hayley and Hope is back to being fatherless. She's back at the Salvatore school.

Then, you know Elijah got his memory erased and that caused a BIG issue all across the show. Then just as Hope is about to save her mom and live happy again after Roman and his mother have captured them, Elijah's memory loss gets Hayley killed and is making the world's end come closer and closer. Plus, Klaus is there trying to save them too but if battling with his brother at the same time. The Hayley goes up into flames and Klaus has to leave again which basically makes Hope an orphan. SO now she has to stay at the Salvatore school and seek comfort from Freya who she doesn't really know like the either.

So what I'm trying to say is that in Legacies they need to bring some more Mikealsons into the show so Hope can have her real family around for just a while.

#JulieDoBetter #BringTheMikaelsonsBack

Legacies is one of my favorite tv series. I just hope with everything in me it can last long unlike my other faves. I loved Vampire Diaries a top favorite. Then came The Originals and it was my favorite of all series. I was disappointed & thought Legacies could not fill that missing place I had for The Originals but...I was shocked to find out it did! It is now up there at #1 alongside The Originals 🥰. I am fearful to get too into theses series afraid they will be jerked away! They always are 😭 I would really love to see a blend of guest appearances with ppl from both VD & TO. Please let this series last as long as Supernatural or Soap Operas!!! 😁 Thank you to everyone involved for making this happen. I will be forever grateful. I highly recommend all the series in this post. I am a forever fan 😍

This is an underrated show that doesn't get enough credit for what it's able to do.

It's a lighter more humorous take on the TVD verse yet it's masterful in the way it injects drama that will have even the most stone-hearted people in tears.

I have never seen a show that develops such complex and deep characters in such a short period of time without even having to take away from the overarching plot of the episode/season.

The special effects and make-up used for the monsters and magic and all of that is simply on point. The make-up is stunning and surprisingly well done for a show just getting started.

Not even Supernatural managed to do what this show has done in the first season, or even a single season. Legacies is much better in character-driven moments and development while still maintaining the humor and lightness that the show focuses on.

As Supernatural struggles and winds down, I am glad that there is another tv show that can and will fill the void with equal if not greater skill.

Sigh...updating this review after the midseason finale of Season 2. The first Season was great...I loved it. The second season has seen a big shift one that I'm not liking.

I love humor in my shows but even I know when too much is too much. The Christmas episode was horrible. The show is now trying to be too

much like Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Buffy had humor...it was a sophisticated type...nothing silly or slapstick. But it also had a slow burn with unfolding plots and relationship developments and its character development was top notch. Legacies has none of these things.

Case in point...the dreaded Christmas episode. It delves into just plain silliness...a ridiculous fan service episode that should never have been made. It's only saving grace is the acting of Danielle Rose Russell and Nick Fink...the only two actors on the show that have the acting chops to have been able to hold their own on The Originals in my opinion. And unfortunately by nights end Nick Fink's character has been killed off. Hopefully the actor will find an acting job that better utilizes his talent.

The pacing was horrible...Bad editing gone wrong. The episode jumped from scene to scene without bothering to develop the story. For example in one scene we have Fink's character Clarke trying to convince Russell's Hope that he is on her side. The next time we see them together it's through a phone call. The explanation of what happened (that she put him under a truth spell) is told rather than experienced. Why the rush? The story felt like it was written by a bad and impatient fanfiction writer.

Again the acting of the leads in these scenes make them the only successful scenes in the episode and actually left me wanting for more interaction between the two. Alas, unless some miracle occurs and Plec decides to bring Ryan Clarke back from the dead that is not looking hopeful.

The rest of the episode was a disaster. The fight between Santa Claus and Krampus was utterly ridiculous. Could anyone imagine such a scene playing out on either Vampire Diaries or heaven forbid The Originals. They also seem to be using characters to just move the plot along and then dropping them...Clarke being the latest but not the only one. The Sheriff and her children were brought in while Alaric and Hope were at the High School but once they returned to the Salvatore School these new characters were dropped.

Another problem was the sudden sexual exploits between Lizzie and Sebastian. Why so fast? The slow burn that was developing between them at the first of the season had been one of the highlights of the season. Then all of a sudden they are together in a not so romantic encounter that didn't even measure up to mediocre. Does anyone remember how long it took for Delena to happen...that was a slow burn and it was worth the wait. Not so for this couple.

This season is off the rails and not in a good way. To see it de-evolve into this silliness is disheartening.

On the fence with this show.

As a show on its own, no relation to TVD and TO, its pretty okay. Some characters are cool and others meh. Storyline is kind of average, but still interesting enough to keep me watching it.

As a spin-off of TVD and TO, it’s pretty disappointing. Both of those shows were really good, though they both ended rather badly. Fortunately, The Originals had the same vibe and excellent/unforgettable actors like The Vampire Diaries. Legacies has turned out to be more of a juvenile, ‘new monster every episode’ tv series. Similar to Grimm, except more cringey.

After watching season 2, I can definitely see potential with characters. Such as Thomas Doherty and Nick Fink. Thomas definitely has the same vibe as Damon and The Original vampires, which is a throwback to what it felt like to watch the first 2 tv series. Nick Fink’s acting is surprisingly good and I definitely enjoy watching him preform and his chemistry on screen with Danielle Rose Russell.

Not too mention that TVD and TO both featured appearances from the well known characters/actors in both shows. Legacies only mentions the names, rarely actually featuring.

Script is sometimes head slapping, though also sometimes very touching. I think one thing that definitely contributes overall is that the idea of a ‘teenager’ as changed. What we saw of Elena and Caroline while in school vs what Hope and Landon etc look like while in high school.

I definitely think Legacies is a hit or miss for some people.
