Some viewers and die-heart fans of Wendy Williams are losing their optimism about her returning to host her own show. Things are not looking positive that she will return soon or ever. Her return has been postponed several times because of her health.

Wendy's Health

Wendy has been struggling with her health since contracting COVID-19 in September. Early in November, the 57-year-old host wrote on Instagram, “As everyone knows, my health has been a hot topic. I’m making progress, but it’s just one of those things that’s taking longer than we expected." She ended her post by assuring her fans, “Right now Wendy has to focus on Wendy.”

Since then more information has come out about Wendy's health, and it is that she is not well enough to return to host her talk show. She has been pictured getting around in a wheelchair. On November 22, Toine The Don of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show reported that Wendy has completely lost all blood circulation in her legs and feet and she can no longer walk.

A rumor is beginning to spread that Wendy is suffering from dementia. Her younger brother Tommy, 54, denied that rumor. He emphatically said his family isn't concerned about Wendy's mental health, and her ongoing health condition is all physical brought on by Graves' disease and hyperthyroidism that she was diagnosed with 19 years ago.

The Wendy Williams Show

Wendy postponed her return several times since September 9, 2021. Season 13 of The Wendy Williams Show was originally scheduled to premiere on September 20. That didn't happen. The return was then scheduled for October 4. That didn't happen. The show did premiere on October 18 without Wendy. In fact, Wendy has not been on her own show during the entire season.

Guest hosts kept the show on the air from October 18 through November 24. They included Leah Remini, Whitney Cummings, Sherri Shepherd, Michael Rapaport, Bill Bellamy, Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos, Fat Joe and Remy Ma.

Returning guest hosts include fan favorites, Leah Remini for two weeks from November 29-December 10, and Sherri Shepherd returns for one week from December 13-17. These two women are returning to close out this year, but people are speculating that their returns are really "auditions" for the permanent host position.

Earlier The Sun reported that The Nick Cannon Show could possibly be moved to that time slot. That is no longer an option because Nick's ratings are dropping. However, Wendy’s numbers have gone up during her long absence.

More Guest Hosts or Permanent Replacement?

Wendy's fans might be disappointed and in denial, but there is talk about getting a permanent host instead of continuing to have rotating guest hosts. As of now, viewers tune in only when their favorite celebrity is hosting. It is better to have some stability on the Fox television talk show.

If Wendy does not return to The Wendy Williams Show, a permanent host will be announced as soon as January 2022 when the show returns from its winter hiatus. The reports also suggest that Sherri Shepherd is the number one choice for a permanent position. Sherri said she would never agree to become the permanent replacement without Wendy's blessings. However, there are others who want the show with or without Wendy's blessings.

The possibility of a replacement has come up because of Williams’ long absence and increased ratings during her absence. Radar Online reported that no one expected ratings to go up at all without Wendy, but they did. The guest hosts were there just to keep the show on the air until Wendy returned. It was thought at first the studio audience would not show up and viewers would not watch if Wendy wasn't there to host from her purple chair.

The week when Sherri Shepherd guest hosted, the rating for the show went up by a whopping 32 percent. Wendy's fans continued to watch that week, and Sherri's own fans tuned in. Let's see what happens when Sherri returns to host for a second time.

Tommy Williams told The Sun that he and his sister have discussed what might happen if she does not return to her show. He said they have talked about different possibilities. They both concluded, "time will tell.” One thing studio executives have already decided is that if Wendy doesn't return, the show will be rebranded and it will no longer bear her name.

Fans and viewers are definitely concerned about Wendy's show that she has worked so hard to maintain, but they are more concerned about her health. They wish her a speedy recovery.
