Justin Bieber has had many health issues during his career. The 28-year-old musician, singer, and songwriter is once again in the news for another illness that a lot of people have never had. Instead of being secretive, the Canadian singer has always been open about his health issues.

Ramsey Hunt Syndrome

On June 10, 2022, Bieber announced via Instagram and TikTok that he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. As a result, the right side of his face is paralyzed. He cannot blink his right eye. He cannot use his right nostril. He finds it hard to eat and smile. Ramsay Hunt syndrome also includes dizziness, balance issues, and vertigo.

The Mayo Clinic and other medical professionals say Ramsay Hunt is a rare condition that comes from the same virus that causes chickenpox in childhood and shingles that can come at any age but is more common in older adults. The virus can survive in the nerves and can stay dormant for many years before it is reactivated long after the primary infection has been cleared.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is so rare that it affects only about 5 in every 100,000 people. However, it can happen to anyone who has had chickenpox.

For some people, Ramsay Hunt syndrome is temporary that lasts only a few days or weeks. For others, it could last for months and even for years. Unfortunately for others, some of the symptoms never completely go away.

According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), the common treatment for Ramsay Hunt syndrome is antiviral medications and steroids. The good news is that most symptoms will get better or even disappear with treatment. The bad news is that in some cases, Ramsay Hunt syndrome could become permanent.

Bieber had several concerts scheduled in the upcoming weeks and months. Because of his facial condition, he has canceled many of his scheduled appearances. He does not know how long it will take for him to recover so he can resume his performances.

Bieber posted an update on Monday, June 14 that each day he has gotten better and through all of the discomforts.

COVID-19

Bieber tested positive for COVID-19 on February 20, 2022. It was two days after embarking on his fourth concert tour during his Justice World Tour.

Lyme Disease

Bieber announced on his Instagram account on January 8, 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Humans get Lyme Disease from tick bites. Some symptoms may include a fever, chills, headaches, tiredness, muscle pain, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, and loss of energy.

Mononucleosis

Along with the Lyme Disease announcement, Bieber also announced on January 8, 2020, that he had a serious case of infectious mononucleosis, which caused a rash on the skin, fever, inflamed throat, brain function, swollen lymph nodes, loss of energy, neurological and overall health. Therefore, the singer was suffering from two diseases at the same time.

Mental Health

Bieber has been open about his struggles with trauma, depression, anxiety, and mental illness during his entire career. He revealed that he has struggled with addiction because of his frequently use of lean, pills of MDMA, and hallucinogenic mushrooms in the early stages of his career.

Justin's depression got so bad he considered suicide at one time in his life. He said in his YouTube documentary, Justin Bieber: Next Chapter, “I had experienced so many things in my life. I just got to a place where I was lonely, and I just didn‘t want to do it all alone.”

Thankfully, Justin doesn't have to do it all alone. He attributes getting healthier to his wife, Hailey Baldwin. Bieber confessed when they got married in 2018, there was still a lot of damage and hurt that he still needed to work through.

In 2019, the singer announced he was taking time from music to find some healing. He said he needed to be very focused on repairing some of the deep-rooted issues that were consuming him.
