Jordi Vilasuso is out as Rey

Jordi Vilasuso has been portraying Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless since 2018. Fans were stunned to find out that he was recently fired from the CBS soap considering Rey was a popular character. He is married to Sharon Newman Rosales (Sharon Case) and in the past few weeks, it seemed he was going to have an affair with Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan ) but now that will not happen.

Vilasuso did not detail what will cause Rey to leave Genoa City but admitted during a recent interview with Soaps in Depth that he had filmed his last scenes two weeks ago. This suggests that his character will more than likely be off-screen by the end of the month.

Jordu Vilasuso: The path that led to The Young and the Restless

The man that Y&R fans have come to know as Detective Rosales was born Jordi Alejandro Vilasuso in Miami on June 15, 1981. His Cuban American parents are Dr. Frank Vilasuso and Ana Vilasuso who raised him in Coral Gables, Florida, Jordi began his acting career at 15, in 1996 in the role of Tommy in the film The Last Home Run. He was in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000 and the movie Angels Don't Sleep Here in 2001.

Vilasuso's career in daytime began in 2000 with the role of junior mobster Tony Santos on Guiding Light. Jordi won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in 2003 which is the year he left the CBS soap. Over the next seven years, Vilasuso appeared in many television series including Numb3rs ( pronounced Numbers), La Lena, Heights, Ready or Not, The Lost City, and Fashion House.

In November 2010 he was hired by ABC’s All My Children as Dr. Griffin Castillo who later appeared in the online reboot of the show in 2013. From 2016 to 2017 Vilasuso was in the role of Dario Hernandez on NBC's Days of Our Lives.

Vilasuso shares his current situation

During the Soaps in Depth interview, Vilasuso explained that he had signed a 3-year contract with The Young and the Restless but it had an option where the execs could do a 6-month review. When his status was last revisited the powers that be decided not to have the character of Rey continue on the show. Vilasuso was shocked but said that in looking back he should have seen the handwriting on the wall.

The Young and the Restless fans agree that Rey was not properly utilized and now that Vilasuso is leaving wonder if Egan might be next. Like Rey, Chelsea seems to be going nowhere fast on the show and the writers do not seem to know what to do with her.

The downfall of Rey Rosales

Rey seems to have taken a back seat to the men in Sharon's life and watches as they move along while he is on the sidelines. First, there was his wife's obsession with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and now both Nick Newman (Josh Morrow) and Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) are taking up a lot of her time.

Rey could return to Miami for a family crisis or something could happen in Genoa City that sends him packing. Ironically as Rosales is leaving Y&R they have brought in two new actresses Susan Walters who reprises her role as Diane Jenkins and Kelsey Wang who is portraying Allie.

Fans are saying they cannot figure out what the execs are thinking by firing Vulasuso but the actor seems to have no regrets. He says portraying Detective Rosales was his longest soap role and he is grateful to have been a role model for Hispanics, specifically Cuban Americans living in Miami.
