Invented Marvel Character: Platypus

Bringing my original comic characters to life with some apps and zero artistic ability.

Growing up my dream job was to be a comic book artist/writer. But with very little artistic talent that dream died pretty quickly. Now I do my best to bring my characters to life using apps like factory of heroes, swordmaker, armormaker and you doodle. They don't always turn out looking very good but I get more excited about the concepts and stories behind the characters than how well I can make the character look good. Sometimes my characters are from cultures I am not a part of because I think it fits their story or other aspects about them. I am not a cultural expert but at the very least I hope no one is upset by me using aspects of cultures I'm not a part of and find interesting. That said below is my idea for Platypus, a venomous mutant hero who idolizes Wolverine.

Coen Connor is an Australian mutant of Koori and Irish heritage. Most mutants' mutations are apparent at birth or around adolescence but Coen's mutation started to show by age 8 and by age 9 he was at an American school for mutants. Coen was well liked by teachers and students but constantly getting into trouble for seeking out danger despite his young age.

Due to Coen's mutation he has clawed fingers and toes and has super senses because he can detect the electricity around him. He also has venomous barbs that give painful stings just below his ankles. It's unclear if it is part of his mutation but he also seems to have increased strength and lung capacity. On top of this he wears gloves that let his claws come out but also have webbing in between so he is an exceptional swimmer. In addition he can also burrow with his claws pretty effectively. Considering his affinity for Wolverine, his home country and his extraordinary abilities it was natural for him to make "Platypus" his mutant code name.

Despite looking up to Wolverine and trying to fight like him, Platypus lacks a healing factor and needs to be far more careful. Luckily his ability to detect electricity helps Platypus read the bio-electricity in his opponents' muscles to dodge and counter very effectively. His attacks most often rely on his foot and hand claws which can slash and tear through enemies and regrow in days if they break. However, the quickest way for Platypus to incapacitate most big targets is to use his foot barbs. Although the venom emitted from the barbs cannot kill or paralyze it can cause debilitating pain so most who feel Platypus' sting will be less effective or even useless in combat for at least a few hours. That being said, Platypus can only produce so much venom in a given time so he has to use it sparingly and not waste it on enemies that will not be hindered by it (such as sentinels or mutants who are immune to it). Yet, interestingly when Platypus is in love he is able to produce more venom. Between Platypus' being able to sense electricity, his great swimming skills and his ability to burrow he can also be a bit like of an infiltration expert.

All in all Coen is doing much better now that he is old enough to be included in combat training and even real battles but there are concerns from staff (including Logan himself) about how much Coen idolizes Wolverine as they fear it will make him continue to take unnecessary risk and get himself killed. Wolverine has stressed that Coen can still have a great impact but it won't last if he ends up dead.
