Invented Marvel Character: Luddite

Bringing my original comic characters to life with some apps and zero artistic ability.

Growing up my dream job was to be a comic book artist/writer. But with very little artistic talent that dream died pretty quickly. Now I do my best to bring my characters to life using apps like factory of heroes, swordmaker, armormaker and you doodle. They don't always turn out looking very good but I get more excited about the concepts and stories behind the characters than how well I can make the character look good. Sometimes my characters are from cultures I am not a part of because I think it fits their story or other aspects about them. I am not a cultural expert but at the very least I hope no one is upset by me using aspects of cultures I'm not a part of and find interesting. That said below is my idea for Luddite a character I envision as Marvel hero who eventually joins a school for mutants.

Amara "Fritz" Friedrichs is an American girl of West African and German descent. Her father is an history professor and her mother is a sculptor. Around age 11 what seemed like horrible luck began plaguing her family. Incidents such as frequent power outages, multiple cars breaking down and computer crashes leading to missed deadlines pushed Amara's family from middle class to poverty by the time she was 12. Sensing she was somehow causing these problems she put on a "troubled youth" act around her parents, dropped out of school and ran away by age 13.

Over time Amara started to understand her mutation. She deduced that: 1. Technology is more likely too malfunction around her. 2. With some focus she can make technology malfunction. 3. With a lot of focus she can will technology to not malfunction. 4. The more advanced the technology is the easier it is to make it malfunction but the harder it is to make it not malfunction. 5. Influencing technology too much will exhaust her until she rests. While a runaway she would use her powers to sneak into libraries for shelter in between working whatever under the table jobs she could to survive. Missing her parents but afraid to reconnect, Amara stayed close to them in spirit by studying history and woodcarving. Slowly her carving went from artistic to practical making simple spears as a means to defend herself on the streets. As her confidence grew in this respect she went from protecting herself to protecting others using more and more complex builds.

Amara now dons medieval themed battle suit. Due to her need to her need to take on threats that are physically stronger than her, her historical knowledge and modern technology being less reliable for her, the modular battle suit often includes many miniature siege weapons. This can include torsion powered battering rams for punching or jumping, a custom catapult backpack that launches stones and wrist mounted ballistas. And since most of her armoury is wood based she also incorporates flaming ammunition when necessary.

Amara's time spent living in the street came to an end when she was recruited to a school specifically for mutants by 14. Due to her powers she was not included in the school's regular classes or housing. Instead she was put on an individualized education plan and mostly camps on a secluded part of the school's grounds. Over time she has reconnected with her parents explaining everything using carrier pigeons and is the happiest she's ever been. She has taken the codename Luddite but her friends at school often call her "Lulu". She continues to refine her battle armour and train her powers with the hopes of becoming part of the X-Men but with so much of their work relying on advanced technology it is unclear if that will ever be truly possible.
