Invented Marvel Character: Allure

Bringing my original comic characters to life with some apps and zero artistic ability.

Growing up my dream job was to be a comic book artist/writer. But with very little artistic talent that dream died pretty quickly. Now I do my best to bring my characters to life using apps like factory of heroes, swordmaker, armormaker and you doodle. They don't always turn out looking very good but I get more excited about the concepts and stories behind the characters than how well I can make the character look good. Sometimes my characters are from cultures I am not a part of because I think it fits their story or other aspects about them. I am not a cultural expert but at the very least I hope no one is upset by me using aspects of cultures I'm not a part of and find interesting. That said below is my idea for Allure, a mutant who starts being mentored by the X-Men in their late teens.

The mutant known as Allure no longer uses the name they were given at birth. Allure's powers were once only known to their parents and a few that were close to them. This small group knew that Allure could more often than not temporarily make someone fall in love with them almost instantly and since Allure would only use it like a party trick and never use their power to actually cause harm their secret stayed with that small group. That ended when Allure was falsely accused of using their powers on another 16 year old they were in a relationship with. Both sets of parents got involved and managed to move past it for an undisclosed sum and on the condition that Allure be sent to a school for mutants.

Devastated that their parents wouldn't believe they were innocent Allure cut ties and accepted they would begin a new life. Allure was welcomed by the school, safe and relatively happy but they were frustrated they were not able to train their powers initially. The faculty were not comfortable letting Allure use their powers as a child and settled on beginning their training when they were 19 on the condition that their powers could only be used on adults or danger-room simulations under controlled circumstances.

Since training their powers Allure has become much happier and been much more social with the other students. Telepathy or pheromones are the suspected source of Allure's powers but the school is still uncertain on what causes them. However, certain things about their power has become clear. Strong willed people or people who are have trained to prevent mind control are less likely to be controlled by Allure. People in happy relationships are also less vulnerable to their powers. Similarly Allure convincingly "playing the part" of someone who loves the person they target makes the hold they have on targets more powerful. Due to this Allure's fighting is unusual, contradictory and at times comical. They will blow a kiss then do a spin kick, get ballroom twirled directly into a judo throw or even feign a kiss before opting for a headbutt. Even though Allure is quite new to combat their peers and teachers have been surprised by how fast they've learned and how intuitive they are in transitioning their powers into such a proficient offence. There are concerns for for Allure's safety as their powers don't work on everyone but Allure is aware of the risks and intends to continue using their powers for the greater good. Sometimes the nature of their powers causes self doubt or scrutiny from others but Allure trusts themselves to never cross certain lines and to only use their powers to a reasonable extent. More recently Allure discovered it wasn't just feelings of romantic love they can prompt so if a target not responding Allure can also try to use feelings of non-romantic love to get the upper hand.
