Interview - A Movie Review

'Interview' is a compelling movie.

Why don’t we make the best of this interview? You don’t know anything about me.

Interview is a 2007 film. A political news activist is forced to interview an actress for a magazine. Not interested in her work, Katya and Pierre spend a night together trying to collect more information about one another.

Interview is a compelling movie. As soon as this film concluded, I gasped. I enjoy movies in one setting, have two characters, and the story is not about one thing. You can never be sure about what anybody is hiding.

Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller were terrific. Not the most likable people, this night is a chance to read between the lines. Having gone through personal tragedies, both question career paths.

Recently, I watched Miller in An Imperfect Murder, a film that has garnered criticism. Based on her performance in both films, Miller is quite the actress. There is so much to analyze about the depths of her character in Interview. All these quirks add more layers.

Katya is an unapologetic actress who goes after what she wants. Miller was so energetic, spry on her feet, and falling over countless times. I like the way she dictated each of her scenes, walking around the space or getting up on the tables.

Depending on how you felt about Pierre, viewers learn the dos and don’ts of interviewing. Pierre doesn’t care to research facts about Katya making that evident with the way he conducts the interview. Buscemi was great in his character. I have never seen him in a role like this since he normally does more comedic roles.

The characters have depth. The dialogue is very well-written, building the dynamic. Buscemi and Miller have a handful of interesting conversations and arguments. Oh, and clever comebacks are thrown around.

Steve Buscemi also directed this film. I have only known Buscemi as an actor, but he is a wonderful director. He chose all the necessary close-ups of characters or important objects in the room.

He also did a spectacular job staging the film. The way the characters move throughout the room tells a story. With the way they interact with furniture or any part of the location, it’s like a test.

Since the story takes place in an apartment, he made sure that we never lost touch with the outside world. We always hear cars honking, people yelling on the streets, or other city life noises. Something is always happening throughout the film.

The location says a lot about the character's mind. Katya’s apartment is this big space with a lot of unique furniture, like a hammock in the middle of the room. All this space indicates what the characters are hiding. As the film continues, and secrets come out, slowly this space closes off.

At first, the characters met in a restaurant. I am glad that the whole movie did not take place in that setting because it didn’t offer any privacy.

Why do people do what they do? People read a lot about each other. Choose the career that you want, but you should also take risks outside of your interests. No matter the career, or being introduced to someone prepare for an interview.

We all have a story. We all do what we do for a reason. You have no idea what you think you know about someone, so be careful what you say and what you confess in the long run.

Interview ends with a startling revelation. You need to look into this entertaining film.
