Insane Theory If 'Mr. Robot' Broke Elliot, Forcing Him To Live In The World Of 'Deathnote'

Call Every 'Deathnote' and 'Mr. Robot' Fan

We're living in a time where we've watched so many television series that they began to look and sound very similar to another. Well, this fan theory, or fan-fiction, isn't that far from the others that have graced the internet, besides the fact that it's about the hit drama, Mr. Robot, and extremely popular series Deathnote. Yes, one is an anime and the other is a live-action television program, but the two strike strange similarities.

Fans of Mr. Robot would know how paranoid-schizo Elliot can become and the cult following behind Deathnote could tell stories on the extremities of Light's anti-social behavior. The two fit together like a glove, wanting to "change the world" and all, but beyond those similarities lie how twisted the two seem apart as they would together. Now, if you've never seen either show, then you should turn back now to avoid spoilers.

Okay. Now, this is how Elliot and Light Yagami could actually be the same person, but in a parallel universe or delusional reality.

Mr. Robot Created an Animated Reality

Now the fan fiction only works if you've accepted that Elliot is currently receiving another beating, or Mr. Robot has finally won like Elliot had previously feared. So, what if Elliot was forced to live in the animated reality? We saw Mr. Robot force him to live in a television sitcom on Season 2, Episode 6 "eps2.4_m4ster-s1ave.aes" in order to protect him. And as we know, Elliot lied to us by pretending to be in prison in that same season. What's preventing him or Mr. Robot from lying to us here?

Mr. Robot Reuses Date of Death as Date of Birth

The basic similarities would be the two having a younger sister and they are both 28-years-old. The only difference is their birthdays, which is September 17, 1986 for Elliot Alderson and February 28, 1986 for Light Yagami. But guess who died on February 28, 1995? His father, Edward Alderson, who is also his interpretation of what Mr. Robot looks like. Within this theory, it could be the reason Mr. Robot — Elliot's twisted alter-ego — uses Elliot's father's date of death for Light Yagami's date of birth. It's nuts, but it's plausible.

The Entities in Mr. Robot and Deathnote

Having two seasons of Mr. Robot should mean everyone is entirely used to Elliot talking to himself and of course, us audiences. Now that we've established that, both characters can see and speak to an entity that no one else can see or speak to in their world. The strange part is that we are aware of both present entities.

Dom Taking the Cake as L

Light Yagami, AKA Kira, has a Shinigami named Ryuk who is a lot like Elliot's alter-ego Mr. Robot. Yes, Ryuk isn't a part of Yagami, but viewing things from a realistic standpoint, he'd be considered his alter-ego or at least appear as one to his friends and families. If that's not valuable then remember the two made sure to have nicknames, which are necessary and obviously listed prior, altered their voices (obviously again) and broadcasted their video recorded messages across all forms of media.

Now, in this "animated world" Elliot would still have an opponent and guess who that would be. Yep, private detective L, the guy who's obsessed with sweets. In reality, Dominique "Dom" DiPierro would be that character due to her upkeep with suckers throughout the second season. It had occurred so often that it's become a rarity to see the two characters not snacking on something while investigating.

Angela Moss Becoming Misa Amane

Now this one is a bit of a stretch, but the background of Misa Amane from Deathnote, who lost her parents, is nearly like Angela Moss's. The suspect in Misa Amane's parents' case had a long trail that was heading in his favor before he was killed by Kira. Angela Moss lost her mother to the "unnoticed" Washington Township leak from ECorp. She later goes after the company from within, which had already been attacked by Mr. Robot. She later gains information that's credible enough to put those responsible in prison. So, basically Mr. Robot helped her just as Light does for Misa.

Taking Control of Society

The two also want to control society, whether it be through a digital platform or a supernatural notebook. In Deathnote, Light wants to rule a world "cleansed of evil," whereas Elliot and Mr. Robot seeks to get rid of E Corp, the world's largest conglomerate. Why would they want to stop evil? Well, doesn't everyone? Okay, fine. Their reasons lie solely on the fact that they're both egoistical sociopathic geniuses, looking to "fix" society.

Still not convinced? Well, Light Yagami crossing names off a list, sentencing people to death, is Elliot's CD collection. In season one, Elliot kept encoded CD's of people's lives he currently controlled or destroyed. That was his way of dealing with the evil, whereas Yagami simply murdered them.

If Mr. Robot won, created an animated reality called Deathnote for Elliot while he still ran things, then this would be another crazy alternative. Aside from creating a place with a repetitive laugh track, this would be insane for even Elliot to adjust to. That is, if it were real.

Yet, all of this is just a theory. A fan fiction to be exact, but it's like the many that have come to exist on the internet. Take it as you will, but still try to enjoy it.
