Every week I will list the independent films that are getting added to Netflix over the next seven days, so you indie fans are up-to-date, and ready for them!

Without further ado, here are the indie films that are hitting Netflix between May 24 and May 31:

'Joy' (FreibeuterFilm/Netflix)

Coming to Netflix: 24 May 2019

Release Year: 2019

Available: USA & UK

Winner of the Best Film Award at the London Film Festival, this gritty drama tells the story of a Nigerian sex worker who is caught in a dangerous balancing act of paying off debts to her exploiter whilst also financially supporting her daughter who lives in Vienna. Life only gets more complicated for Joy when she is instructed by her exploiter to supervise Precious, a young teenager from Nigeria who has been recruited into the world of sex trafficking. You will be absorbed by this thought-provoking drama which features performances drawn from the cast's personal experiences.

'Rim Of The World' (Wonderland Sound and Vision/Netflix)

Source: Slanted

Coming to Netflix: 24 May 2019

Release Year: 2019

Available: USA & UK

Following four teenagers who have to work together when aliens attack the planet, Rim Of The World will ring bells for fans of Stranger Things and It. The awkward adolescents all arrive at summer camp separately, and are left abandoned when an invasion of not-so-friendly monsters occurs. Although they have nothing in common, they have to band together to survive. This sci-fi adventure is directed by McG, who delivered to us the likes of The Babysitter and We Are Marshall.

'The Perfection' (Miramax/Netflix)

Source: Syfy

Coming to Netflix: 24 May 2019

Release Year: 2019

Available: USA & UK

After the death of her mother, cello-playing prodigy Charlotte decides to reconnect with her musical mentors in Shanghai. But when she meets their new star pupil, Elizabeth, her whole world is turned upside down. This horror starring Get Out star Allison Williams and Dear White People's Logan Browning is set to be a stomach-turning watch which will keep you on your toes all the way through. PS: Not for people afraid of bugs (apparently).

'Baby Driver' (Media Rights Capital/Sony Pictures Releasing)

Coming to Netflix: 27 May 2019

Release Year: 2017

Available: UK

This Oscar-nominated action-packed crime drama takes you on a ride into the life of Baby, a young driver whose responsibility is to pick up criminals after they carry out a heist. Although it is an easy job for Baby and he comes home with a satisfying paycheck, he is seeking a normal life away from crime and plans to go on a road trip with a girl he meets. However, he keeps getting sucked back into corruption by his crime boss, Doc. With a great soundtrack and an exhilarating storyline, Baby Driver will have your toes tapping and your heart thumping.

'Lifechanger' (9 Light Entertainment/Raven Banner Entertainment)

Source: Heaven of Horror

Coming To Netflix: 28 May 2019

Release Year: 2018

Available: USA

Being a shapeshifter isn't always easy—they need the security of a loving relationship too, and that's exactly what Drew is after. He is forced to murder people and take over their body every time his body is showing signs of decay, and it is during his time in one of these bodies that he falls in love with a woman named Julia. He becomes fixated on her and begins to pursue her—but will the police get him before he gets the chance to be with her? Watch this fast-paced body horror thriller and see what you think.

'It Comes At Night' (Produced and distributed by A24)

Source: Indiewire

Coming To Netflix: 28 May 2019

Release Year: 2017

Available: UK

The second horror in this list is produced and distributed by renowned independent film company A24, and if you're a fan of post-apocalyptic storylines, this is definitely one to consider. A family are seeking shelter in the woods from a plague which has ravaged the world, and when another family seeking water comes across their home they all decide that there would be a better chance of survival if both families lived together. However, paranoia begins to creep in, and Paul (from the family who were there first) begins to suspect that one of the new family members is carrying the disease. Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian has dubbed it a "fiercely watchable post-apocalyptic chiller."

'Always Be My Maybe' (Good Universe/Netflix)

Source: Slashfilm

Coming To Netflix: 31 May 2019

Release Year: 2019

Available: USA & UK

The fourth film this week that is distributed purely by Netflix is Always Be My Maybe, a story of how childhood friends Sasha and Marcus became more than friends as teenagers, then drifted apart, and now they have been reunited as adults. However, they are now living deeply contrasting lifestyles—Sasha is a famous chef, whereas Marcus is a hometown musician. Will they manage to spark that old romance flame? Keanu Reeves also stars.
