If Sex in the city, than This is Us

Human connection is everything

I believe what we all really need at this time, in 2021, is more shows on human connection. It is truly soothing to watch people engage in social interactions on the big screen. I can speak for myself when I say watching people interact with each other in a pre-covid era brings a lot of joy to my heart. Simply to see people engaging less than 6 feet apart with complete strangers is refreshing. What a crazy year this has been and, it’s safe to say, we all feel a little bit lonely in 2021. These difficult times remind us all that family and friends is what matters most. Which is why I’ve been bringing back classics filled with friendly banter and humour to get my family through. From Friends, Two and half men, Weeds, Full House and Sex in the city. All these shows bring a lot of happiness in our household. I truly believe that if you enjoyed Sex in the city, then you should also binge watch This is us created by Don Folgelman in 2016.

The comparison may seem odd, however the main focus of both of these tv series is human connection. They are both engaging and emotionally uplighting. There really is a storyline in there for everyone. When it comes to Sex in the city, I can't imagine a better night inside than with a nice glass of red wine watching four women explore the world with their different perspectives and views on love. The women on the show Sex in the city brought us so much laughter and tears and we always find ourselves looking forward to the next episode. Even though I've probably watched each season over twenty times, these storylines never get old. This show came out in 1998 and we can still relate to the downfalls of dating in a big city. These women we’re free to be themselves and they we’re navigating life in New York City. It will always be a go to classic for many viewers. I strongly feel that This is Us will soon become a classic for many viewers.

Even if you didn’t enjoy Sex in the City, I still highly recommend This is us. It takes place on a completely different coast in the US, in Los Angeles, California. You can see the highs and the lows of a very diverse group of people in different eras figuring their life out. It is filled with compassion, patience and kindness. You can see family members and friends creating memories and deep bonds with each other. It is very emotional at times and you do get involved in the characters' life choices. All the different characters really get you hooked on what's going to happen next in the characters' love lives, personal lives, family dramas, etc.

I absolutely love these shows because the characters are very relatable and you do begin to root for certain love stories. It is a must watch if you are into romantic comedies. I love seeing all the different people come together being from completely different backgrounds. I believe these shows will inspire everyone to show compassion and understanding towards other people's situations. You’ll have to hold back tears, but it's completely worth it. It is also really relatable because parts of This is us was filmed during Covid, therefore they are living the pandemic along with the viewers which creates a strange ‘we are all in this together’ feeling. It is everyone coming together to promote acceptance and strong role models in regards to parenting, careers and all personal matters of the heart. A wonderful contribution to viewers!
