Here are 10 anime to binge for Halloween! How did I come up with the anime for this list? Well, I am a huge horror buff and love a good scary movie or show. Which means I never get scared anymore. There is a lot of scary or gory anime but the ones I put on this list are ones that got my heart racing.

I only write about anime I have seen, so if you have a favorite horror anime that's not on this list comment below!!

WARNING - All of these anime have scary images and mature topics. So be prepared to have your stomach in knots.

I hope you find an anime to watch this Halloween!

10. Another

Storyline: Twenty-six years ago, in a third-year classroom of a middle school, there was a student named Misaki. As an honors student who was also good at sports, the charming boy was popular with his classmates. When he suddenly died, his classmates decided to carry on as if he was still alive until graduation. Then, in the spring of 1998, a boy named Sakakibara Kouichi transfers to that classroom, and he grows suspicious of the fearful atmosphere in that classroom. In particular, there is a beautiful, aloof girl named Mei Misaki who wears an eye patch and is always alone drawing pictures.

Info: 13 episodes

Genre: Horror, Drama

My Review: This show was such a trip. I will add a gore warning here, it gets very bloody. Another is very fast pace and will have you hooked. I watched it in one sitting. I don't want to spoil anything but this show will make your stomach turn.

9. The Future Diary (Mirai Nikki)

Storyline: Yukiteru Amano is a 14-year-old loner who spends much of his time dispassionately recording events around him in his cell phone "diary." His only friends are imaginary ones: Dues ex Machina, the "god of time and space," and Murmur, Dues' impish helper. Yukiteru's life takes a turn for the strange when his diary starts recording events before they happen and Dues announces that he's not so imaginary after all, and a turn for the sinister when his diary announces his impending death. It turns out Yukiteru has become part of a survival game to determine who will succeed Dues as the god of time and space, competing with 11 others who also possess diaries that predict the future in various ways, But Yukiteru does have at least one strong ally: Yuno Gasai, a classmate who despite being a Future Diary holder herself is determined to protect Yukiteru at all costs. She's also an obsessive and possibly crazy stalker whose own Future Diary records Yukiteru's every move in ten-minute intervals.

Info: 26 episodes, 1 OVA episode

Genre: Action, Drama, Thriller

THIS IS FOR MATURE AUDIENCES

My Review: This might be one of the craziest stories ever written. I was completely hooked on episode 1. High levels of thrill and plot twists will make your head spin. It is very gory and has some very graphic and disturbing content including sexual assault and abuse, If you cannot handle these topics this show might not be for you. But if you need a thrilling, heart-racing, mind-exploding anime this is for you. You have to watch the OVA episode right after you finish or you will be left with a sour taste in your mouth. I watched this show a while ago and recently rewatched it and can confirm I didn't see what was coming even though I had already seen it. Let me know if your jaw was on the floor the last 5 episodes.

8. Erased

Storyline: Struggling manga author Satoru Fujinuma is beset by his fear to express himself. However, he has a supernatural ability to be able to prevent deaths and casualties by being sent back in time before an incident occurs, repeating time until it is prevented. One day, he is involved in an incident with his mother. Desperate to prevent the incident, he gets sent back in time only to find himself as a grade schooler. Satoru brings himself on a new journey; using his ability to prevent the past from changing into a deplorable future.

Info: 12 episodes

Genre: Thriller, Fantasy, Mystery

My Review: Don't let this cute art style fool you. This show gets insane fast. If you like mystery thrillers, I highly recommend erased! With the time-traveling element, this show is wild to watch. Not going to lie I did guess the killer pretty early on but that didn't stop the show from shocking the heck out of me on episode 12. This is a show you will binge so be prepared to watch all 12 episodes in one sitting. If you need a good thrill this Halloween put erased at the top of your list.

7. Beyond the Boundry (Kyoukai no Kanata)

Storyline: The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half Youmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is considered heresy among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

Info: 18 episodes, 2 movies

Genre: Thriller, Fantasy, Drama

My Review: I absolutely loved this show!! It has the right amount of thrill and comedy to break up the horror. I thought this was an extremely creative story, with amazingly written characters. You will sob like a baby at the end just a heads up. I also watched this in one sitting so sit down and get comfy because you will not want to stop watching.

6. Tokyo Ghoul

Storyline: The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.

Info: 4 seasons with 12 episodes each, 2 OVA episodes

Genre: Horror, Fantasy, Drama

My Review: If you haven't seen Tokyo Ghoul yet shame on you. I was obsessed with this show when it first came out. I had never seen anything like it before. It has the perfect mix of horror, thrill, and creative story. It does have 48 episodes so you might not be able to binge it in one night but you definitely will try!

5. Death Parade

Storyline: After death, humans are either reincarnated or sent to the void. Before this happens, they arrive at the Quindecim, a bar attended by the mysterious white-haired Decim. To fairly judge them, he has them play a Game, wherein they reveal their true nature. Decim himself is the arbiter of who wins and who loses.

Info: 12 episodes and 1 OVA episode

Genre: Mystery, Drama

My Review: This is one of the most underrated anime of all time!! Each episode will leave you with chills going down your spine. Ever thought about what happens when you die? This show will put a crazy spin on the afterlife and what our human nature is when put to the test. Every time you think you have a character figured out they will spin it around last minute. In my opinion, this isn't a typical horror anime, but the thrill of the show will make your heart pound and your stomach turn inside out.

4. The Promised Neverland

Storyline: At Grace Field House, life couldn't be better for the orphans. Though they have no parents, together with the other kids and a kind "Mama" who cares for them, they form one big, happy family. No child is ever overlooked, especially since they are all adopted by the age of 12. Their daily lives involve rigorous tests, but afterward, they are allowed to play outside. There is only one rule they must obey: do not leave the orphanage. But one day, two top-scoring orphans, Emma and Norman, venture past the gate and unearth the harrowing secret behind their entire existence. Utilizing their quick-wittedness, the children must work together to somehow change their predetermined fate.

Info: 12 episodes in season 1, and 11 episodes in season 2

Genre: Thriller, Psychological

My Review: I thought this was an incredible anime, and with only 23 action-packed episodes it is binge-worthy. Keep in mind that season 1 is much more of a thriller and season 2 is a fantasy. I loved the wide variety of characters and twists in the storyline. It kept me on my toes and my eyes locked on the screen the whole time, which is not easy to do. I can see why this is an award-winning, highly-rated anime both from critics and the audience.

3. Deadman Wonderland

Storyline: Ganta, the sole survivor of the brutal murder of his entire class, is framed and ends up falsely convicted for it. During the massacre, the real killer embeds a red crystal in him. Ganta is sent to a privately owned prison which has a rather different and perverted take on incarceration, entertaining the masses by performing dangerous games in exchange for privileges. Every inmate he encounters has their own goals, survival being the main one, and it is now up to him to survive this and maybe even prove his innocence.

Info: 13 episodes

Genre: Thriller, Horror, Action

My Review: If you liked squid games you will love deadman wonderland. This is just like squid games expect in prison. Inmates are forced to play games to win money to pay for food and comforts while in prison. The games get more intense and we find out some inmates have the power to control their blood. The games are wild and creative, and then the fights between inmates with abilities are insane to watch. This is a VERY gory anime but so binge-worthy.

2. Soul Eater

Storyline: Set in the Shinigami technical school for weapon meisters, the series revolves around 3 duos. These pairs are a partnership between a weapon meister and a human weapon. Trying to reach a ranking of "Death Scythe" (and thus fit for use by the Shinigami) they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and 1 witch. However, forces outside of the Academy make it a more challenging feat causing trouble around the world.

Info: 51 episodes

Genre: Fantasy, Action

My Review: I love this anime to pieces. It was one of the very first I ever watched so there might be some nostalgia attached to it. But I did recently rewatch it and I got to say, I was blown away again. In the beginning episodes, you will be somewhat annoyed by the characters, the epically black star takes some getting used to. Once you get hooked on the story and the character development you will be hooked for life. I think that anyone who watches this show will be blown away by the creativity and thrilling storyline. This is over 10 years old so you have to give the animation a little slack but I still think it holds its own. It is very different from the other horror anime on this list but whenever I think of Halloween I think of Soul Eater so it had to get its rightful place on the Halloween list. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet!

1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Storyline: One night, 14-year-old Madoka Kaname has a terrible nightmare - against the backdrop of a devastated city, she witnesses a girl fight a losing battle against a dreadful being lingering above, while a cat-like magical creature tells Madoka the only way to change that tragic outcome is for her to make a contract with him and become a magical girl. The next day, the teen's dream seemingly becomes reality as the girl she saw in her dream - Homura - arrives at Mitakihara Middle School as a transfer student, mysteriously warning Madoka to stay just the way she is. But when later on she and her best friend Sayaka encounter the same cat-like magical creature from her dream - who introduces himself as Kyubey - the pair discovers that magical girls are real, and what's more, they can choose to become one. All they must do is sign a contract with Kyubey and agree to take on the duty to fight abstract beings called 'witches' that spread despair to the human world, and in return, each one of them will be granted any single wish they desire. However, as Homura's omen suggests, there might be far more to becoming a magical girl than Madoka and Sayaka realize.

My Review: What… the… F**k….

I could honestly leave that as the full review but I will give you a little more. That is all you will say the whole show. This is on a horror list so you have some idea it is scary. I had no idea. My sister told me this was a fun magical girl anime and I had to watch it with her. I said What the F**k the whole show. This show will blow your brains out and then stab you in the heart and then have your stomach implode. I cannot think of a better way to describe this show.

I hope you can find an anime to enjoy this spooky season!!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
