Love is love. We all deserve happiness.

Based on the graphic novels written by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper is a 2022 Netflix series. Charlie and Nick notice that they have a stronger connection. Experimenting and trying to figure out what their feelings mean, they navigate their way through high school.

Heartstopper is a feel-good series that we need right now. It is precious! Topics about sexuality have evolved throughout the media. Being who you are is important, especially in your journey through high school. For anyone struggling, Heartstopper is a safe haven.

Joe Locke and Kit Connor bring out their very best performances. They beautifully conducted emotional performances. Viewers may recognize Connor as young Elton John from Rocketman. I was amazed to learn that this is Locke’s debut as an actor. He was a natural in his entire performance.

Each struggling with their own insecurities regarding their sexualities, they define a beautiful lesson to all viewers. I adored every one of their interactions. Their affection for one another was so sweet. Faced with questions and arguments, the boys learn to make things work.

Their love story is not the only segment in Heartstopper. Embracing their sexualities and ignoring cruel words, Elle and Darcy (Yasmin Finney and Kizzy Edgel) explored another storyline on how to be comfortable with your sexuality.

The ensemble for Heartstopper includes a variety of characters, most of which whom have varying opinions. You have the bullies, parents, and a reliable teacher. I was not fond of some of the characters (the bullies, specifically), but that is the whole point of the show. It’s a test.

I am so happy that Olivia Colman was in Heartstopper. She has become one of my favorite actresses. In one noteworthy scene, Colman was so overcome with emotion that she forgot her lines!

The best part about the cast is how they took it seriously. All who were involved were respectful of the material, making Heartstopper to someone who needs it. Each member of the cast brought something new, expanding their roles into something more.

I only just found out that Heartstopper is based on a graphic novel series. Now, I would love to read these! A few story elements were changed. A couple of characters were added to the series to boost drama and angst.

It was cute how production included little heart graphics or leaves on the screen. It went with the tone of the show. Cinematography stood out. This technical addition makes viewers feel that it is okay to laugh. Heartstopper does not deal with a heavy subject matter, but for some, the subject of sexuality is a big deal.

Heartstopper has earned critical acclaim in the LGBTQ fanbase. What I love about this series is that it is not just for one generation. It’s okay to be unsure about your sexuality. Figure it out in your own time. That message was conducted beautifully by Alice Oseman.

Relationships are not easy. That’s why you should always be yourself and never amount to someone who you are not. We all want to find love. It takes time, but eventually, we will match the puzzle.

This is not much of a complaint, but It was a little sappy at times. In no way does that ruin anything! Heartstopper is meant to make you feel happy. We need more shows like this.

Go watch Heartstopper on Netflix. I am so happy that the series has been given the green light for two more seasons. It’s a sweet series that will have you smiling in all the episodes.
