What if Luck was quantifiable, and something everyone was born with?

Everyone, except the Unfortunates -- teenagers born with absolutely zero luck. Now with the world mysteriously plunged into chaos and reality itself threatened, they will be our only hope to save the world.

Our last hope is those with no chance of success... the only thing anyone can wish them is Good Luck.

This is a cute book. The idea behind it is great and that it takes place in a town called Little Kentucky, Ohio is even more humorous to me. There are places all Ohioans refer to as Little Kentucky and its usually mean as something of an insult of course this depends on where you live too. So I like that this small nothing town is where the catalyst for the story takes place and that out of the clear blue sky Luck comes live. I may use the singular but there’s good luck and bad luck so the God Beings of Luck if we’re going to be specific. It is a stellar concept really and it’s one we’ve not seen before, sure heroes and villains who can change their and your luck with their powers but never have we seen it like this before.

I am really enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceedingly well. The character development is fabulous and this is thanks to the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction and how they act and react to the situations and circumstances that they encounter. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story, introducing the characters and this world that they live in brings us into this absolutely charming story.

I appreciate how this is being structured and how the layers within the story begin to emerge and grow. With the opening showcasing how they arrived and then seeing Artemis and getting a feel for him, how he thinks, acts and behaves are all within the layers that we see. This adds a nice extra push of depth and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved beautifully.

I am a fan of the interiors here. The linework is great and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the detail work is really extremely well rendered. The creativity and imagination that we see is utterly delightful. That we see backgrounds as we do throughout not only enhances the moments but does wonders in bringing out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. The colour work here is brilliantly rendered. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a superb eye for how colour works. There are some really inspired moments and the helmets they wear with the yellow is absolutely striking in appearance.

Four teenagers who have no luck whatsoever are tasked with a mission all their own, as they are the only ones who can accomplish it. Well now that they’ve managed to find the final piece of their puzzle in the newest member of their group who managed to help them complete their training mission. So now we’ll see if these four kids have what it takes to go into Little Kentucky and get things done, what it is exactly is something you’ll have to read the book and find out because I’m not telling. Suffice it to say that this book is going to make you laugh and thrill you and it is definitely something you really need to check out.
