General Hospital: Fans miss Ian Buchanan

Ian Buchanan is a beloved actor who portrayed Duke Lavery on General Hospital off and on from 1986 until May 2, 2015. This was his first major role after studying acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York and having private lessons with Marcia Haufrecht. Buchanan's character died after being shot by Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) from severe blood loss.

Fans were devastated that the popular character and his lovable portrayer left the soap as they enjoyed the pairing of Duke with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). The duo was so loved by the viewers that they achieved super couple status. Since leaving GH Buchanan married physical therapist Antonio Hendricks in 2019. Both men are good friends with Anthony Geary who portrayed Luke Spencer on the ABC soap for over 3 decades and visit him where he resides in Amsterdam.

General Hospital: Two daytime legends are now gone

Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) recently returned to Port Charles with the news that Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) is allegedly dead. She said he died when a cable car snapped and plunged to the ground. Longtime viewers who recall the glory days of General Hospital were stunned as now two fan favorites both Luke and Duke have met their demise. Some spoilers as well as a number of those who watch the ABC soap are hoping this is a hoax and that Lucas Lorenzo Spencer will turn up alive and well at a future date. There probably is no possibility, however, for Duke Lavery coming back from the dead unless he appears as a spirit again.

On General Hospital Duke and Luke were both popular with the viewers who think it's great to see the actors together off-screen. Buchanan returned to GH on December 16 2020 as a ghost to torment Julian Jerome (William deVry) who was dying from a gunshot wound. It was Julian who ordered the hit on Duke and tried to call it off but was too late. This is why the writers decided it would be fitting for Lavery's spirit to torment Jerome as he was heading towards his death.

There is only one movie credit for the actor since leaving General Hospital and that was in 2019 when he narrated the television film A Mermaid for Christmas. Buchanan won the Daytime Emy for Outstanding Newcomer for General Hospital in 1988. He was nominated in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series The Bold and the Beautiful and won the honor in 1997.
