As the Night King’s army approaches House Stark's ancestral home for the Battle of Winterfell, many of our beloved heroes are going to die in the third episode of Game of Thrones' eighth and final season.

Although the previous instalment, “A Knight in the Seven Kingdoms,” was a rare Game of Thrones episode that did not feature a single death, it has many clues as to which character is likely to perish during the Battle of Winterfell, touted to be the longest continuous action sequence ever made for television or film.

Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark, told The Hollywood Reporter that the battle action will be “brutal, terrifying… and (you’ll) experience every single emotion on the spectrum,” while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Ser Jaime Lannister, informed The Wrap that he “wouldn’t put money on no one being hurt.”

Here are 10 characters most likely to die in next Sunday's episode which— at 82 minuteswill be the longest single episode in Game of Thrones’ history.

1. Grey Worm

Sadly, the Unsullied commander is picked by many fans as the character most certain to bite the dust. Not only will he be at the battle frontlines with the Unsullied to face the undead, but sharing a passionate kiss, and making plans to retire to the sunny beaches of Naath after the battle with Missandei are just clear signs that he will surely die. This is Game of Thrones; romance seldom ends well.

2. Eddison "Dolorous Edd" Tollett

“Last man left, burn the rest of us.” The 999th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch has cited this phrase before, and he said it again in Episode 2, this time to Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly. It will be the last time he will ever need to say it.

3. Gendry

For Arya's sake, let's hope Gendry survives in Game of Thrones Season 8. [Credit: HBO]

Those who shipped Arya Stark and Gendry, brace yourselves. With Arya saying, “We're probably going to die. I want to know what (sex is like) before that happens,” it somehow signals that one of them will probably die, despite a blissful night of love-making. Arya is too complex of a main character to get killed off so soon, and, of all places, at home in Winterfell. Besides, she still has Cersei on her list of names. Gendry, bless his heart, will be the one who will be sacrificed.

4. Podrick Payne

Some fans reckoned Ser Brienne of Tarth is likely to die after achieving her dream of being knighted. It will be a shame if the lady knight perished right after gaining due recognition. More likely, it will be her loyal squire who will cop it as “he still has much to learn” as a fighter, as Brienne clearly tells Jaime. His haunting rendition of “Jenny of Oldstones” definitely sounded like a swan song.

5. Theon Greyjoy

For the battle at Winterfell, Theon has volunteered himself and his Ironborn men to shield Bran at the Godswood as the Three-Eyed Raven offers himself as bait to lure the Night King. For sacking the Starks' home when Bran was Lord of Winterfell, Theon aims to redeem himself for all the atrocious things he did, and he can do that just by sacrificing himself to protect Bran at all costs.

6. Ser Beric Dondarrion

The Lightning Lord is long dead in the books, but many reckoned that he is being kept alive to resurrect a key character after he or she died as he possesses the “flame of life” (which resurrected Catelyn Stark as Lady Stoneheart in the books). Then again, after surviving the mission beyond the Wall, and the Night King's ice dragon attack on Eastwatch, the Lord of Light may just call Ser Beric home during this battle.

7. Ser Davos Seasworth

In Episode 2, Tyrion Lannister specifically pointed out that the Onion Knight survived the Battle of Blackwater, and the Battle of the Bastards. And Ser Davos himself admitted that he did it “without a shred of combat ability.” It probably means there won’t be a third lucky time for Jon Snow's loyal adviser, who will be in the thick of action on the battlements of Winterfell.

8. Tormund Giantsbane

It will be a shame to lose the free folk leader as he has been the funniest character in Season 8 thus far, especially the crush he has on the “big woman” that is Brienne. However, during the war council meeting, he also remarked: “We’re going to die. At least we will die together.” If that’s not a hint that he will be a goner, we don’t know what is.

9. Ser Jaime Lannister

Many fans believed that the Kingslayer will be the one to fulfill the “valonqar” ("little brother" in High Valyrian) prophecy, and kill Cersei (even though it was never cited in the show). However, two things stood out in Episode 2: Bran suggesting to Jaime that there may not be an "afterwards” after the battle; and Tyrion mentioning not once, but twice, about the Lannister brothers possibly dying in Winterfell. It seems to indicate that the Kingslayer may complete his redemption arc by dying with honor at the Battle of Winterfell, possibly in the arms of the woman he loves (Brienne, and not Cersei). Still, it would be cooler if he was the fabled valonqar...

10. Melisandre

The Red Woman has yet to be seen in Season 8, but she is certain to appear at the Great War, as she told Jon Snow in Season 6 that she can help him win the war against the Night King. Actress Carice van Houten told EW that Melisandre is “definitely on a mission,” and, as she told Varys, will “return to Westeros to die.” She told Ser Davos' son Matthos that "death by fire is the purest death." Will she meet with a fiery end? We will just have to wait and see!
