Fan Artist Pits Our Favorite Speedsters Against One Another but It Doesn’t End Like You’d Expect
A fan artist depicts the Flash versus Quicksilver battle, debated since the dawn of the Silver Age of comics.
The Flash versus Quicksilver. Who would win? The outcome of the battle has been much debated upon since the dawn of the Silver Age of comics. Is it DC for the win, or would Marvel claim victory? Which speedster is truly befitting of the title Fastest Man Alive?
Perhaps in the 1950s, the answer was a little more straightforward, but nowadays, we have four Flashes, two Barry Allens, two Quicksilvers and at least four other speedsters. Obviously, setting the record straight has become more complicated. To simplify the equation however, we’ll just focus on our two Barrys and two Quicksilvers. Grant Gustin’s TV #TheFlash versus Ezra Miller’s cinematic Flash, versus Evan Peters’ Fox Quicksilver (Peter) versus Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s MCU #Quicksilver (Pietro). Which speedster is the fastest?
Ahmad Safwan, a Malaysian illustrator going by the handle @pencilhead7 on Instagram, attempted to answer this age-old question through a fan comic. The foot race starts out simple enough: all three speedsters are lining up behind the starting mark, basically counting down from 3 to 1.
Yes, you read that right: three speedsters. Pietro, the #MCU Quicksilver, refuses to join, because let’s face it — the guy probably already knows firsthand (through the pain of death) that he’s the slowest of the four.
No use going through the humiliation again.
And so the race starts. Pietro continues to sulk beside Scarlet Witch. And now they wait.
And wait some more.
Peter Maximoff returns to the finish line alone.
Where are the two Barrys? Late? Ahead? On the way? If so, where are they?
Nope.
Did Anyone Win?
Technically, nobody really won, or lost. Although it can be argued that both Barrys won, they didn’t actually make it back to the finish line — Peter did. Plus, they traveled back in time instead of to the future, which means they are technically behind Quicksilver in the grander scheme of things. At the same time, however, we can’t ignore the fact that both Flashes were obviously fast enough to traverse the time stream, while Peter just stayed in the same timeline. The Flashes in this comic were neither ahead nor behind schedule. (Of course, that could easily change if either pencilhead-Flash jumps Earths, in which case we’d have to rule in #DC’s favor.)
Bravo, Mr. Safwan. Bravo. Nobody won, and yet we feel satisfied.
