'Family Matters' reunion on 'The Young and the Restless'

On the 1990s ABC sitcom FAMILY MATTERS, Telma Hopkins portrayed Aunt Rachel the widowed sister of Harriet Winslow and Bryton James played her young son Richie. According to Soaps in Depth, and Entertainment Weekly, the two actors will reunite on June 1 on the CBS soap THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. James confirmed on Instagram how excited he was to be reunited with his former television mom.

James said the following about working with Hopkins again:. “31 years ago, she held me my first day on set,” he shared. “And now, I have the honor of sharing the stage once again with the incomparable TelmaHopkins.” He also encouraged his fans not to miss the upcoming episodes where he and Hopkins share scenes together. This will be the first time the two have worked together since 1998 when FAMILY MATTERS was canceled.

Hopkins will have the role of private detective Denise Tolliver, who will reveal some shocking details about Attorney Amanda Sinclair's past. It's not known how long Telma will be on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS but she will definitely be in more than one episode beginning Tuesday, June 1. Amanda is currently involved in a murder case related to her estranged maternal grandfather who is being accused of murdering her biological father.

This mystery is expanding and even includes Victor Newman so there is no telling how it will all turn out. Those who watch THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS feel certain that there is more to this story than what is currently known and perhaps Denise will shed some light on the facts.

Telma Hopkins got her start by singing in the popular 1970s group Tony Orlando and Dawn. She later had a role in the NBC sitcom GIMME A BREAK from 1983-1987. She was on FAMILY MATTERS FROM 1989-1997. In the middle of being a part of the top 10 sitcom, she had time to have a role on GETTING BY from 1993 to 1994.

From 2002-2006 the actress was a regular cast member on HALF AND HALF. FROM 2013-2014 Hopkins was on ARE WE THERE YET and had a role on PARTNERS in 2014. Telma Hopkins has also had roles in the films, THE WOOD in 1999 and THE LOVE GURU in 2008. She was in TRANCERS in 1984, TRAnCERS II in 1991, TRANCERS III in 1992, and TRANCERS IV in 2019.

Bryton James began acting at the age of 2 and was hired on FAMILY MATTERS when he was only 4. He has been in commercials and magazine ads, including one with Michael Jackson. He guest-starred on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES during its second season and voices Jason James/Z-Strap on the Nicktoons animated series ZEVO-3, He also lends his voice to Virgil Hawkins/Static in the Cartoon Network series YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION Mark Surge in HERO FACTORY.

James has also been a recording artist who performed on Disney Channel and other U.S. and international networks. He joined the cast of Nickelodeon's animate series GLITCH TECHS and in 202 the actor won the Daytime Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Devcon on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.
