Have you seen the series "Euphoria"? If you have not, and plan to than reading this commentary will spoil your first experience. Therefore this is a fair warning for you. With that said I'll continue. One thing Euphoria likes to do a lot is test what you know, love, or even hate about a character. Which is one of the reasons I love and respect the series. Just like real life, you can never truly know a person, also like real life everyone wants to blame someone for something so that they can be seen as innocent again when the truth is no one is innocent. Moreover I also like the way that the show can easy convey emotions nonverbally so perfectly, it places you an majestic atmosphere where you get to experience that character's own personal little world, where it forces you to think, and feel ,not speak. Which on the other hand those same nonverbal responses can give you the wrong idea sometimes. Plus you have to admit the aesthetic is behind heavenly.

In the first season our main manipulative, psychopathic, villain was Nate(Jacob Elordi), except now that Nate is being displayed in a different light, who now is the new main villain? Or who should we at least be concerned about ruining something that brings comfort. Watching season 2 of "Euphoria" was satisfying. Being able to see the famously problematic couple Rue(Zendaya) and Jules(Hunter Schafer) spiral back into each other's arms was what I longed for. Then Elliot(Dominic Fike) comes into the frame and ruins their spiral. Making what they were just restarting to weave together uncomplete. Don't get me wrong Elliott is a pretty chill guy, and a love triangle would be great for the couple, that is if they were more stable in their relationship.

Elliott has his pros and cons, but to me his cons out way his pros. Here's why I feel that way:

Let's start at the beginning when Rue and Elliot first met(In a laundry room doing drugs). This was were I first noticed something off about Elliot. Though he doesn't seem like an addict himself, he found out that Rue is. When they first met he didn't know, and I know that for sure because of how surprised he was when Rue said"Oh, I think I might be goin' into cardiac arrest." In fact, this is one of his pros; he actually cared for her well being. On the other hand though who wouldn't? You'd have to be pretty evil to just completely not care. So one point for Elliott for having the bare minimum sense of compassion. But after he did find out about Rue's addiction he actually listened to Rue and hid Rue's little secret for a while. Plus he continued to do drugs with her after even after he found out. Which made me wonder if I could trust him, or if he would become an issue later on.

Though I guess he could have felt that as long as Rue was doing drugs with him that he could keep an eye on Rue. But it just seems to me like he was having to much fun when he first met Rue to even notice that he needed to make sure she didn't overdose. In spite of that I will admit that the scene on s02e04 where Elliot went to the bathroom and found Rue's drugs ,poorly hidden underneath a cup, he blow it away. Wow! Elliot two points for having a medium sense of compassion. It just still really bothers me that he even went so far as to later admit that their relationship was toxic. Saying; "I just feel like... we might not bring out the best in each other."

Second of all he seems so shady about his own feelings, like he's always hiding something , for example with one person he'll tell them one thing, and with another he'll tell them something completely different. The scene where he was talking to , I guess his sister, she asked him; "So... you wanna tell me who that girl was you just had over."Though he did say that Rue was just a friend, his body language implied otherwise. Like I said earlier "Euphoria" has a lot of nonverbal responses and nonverbal inner monologues when the characters are alone. So it was no surprise to me when he finally admitted that he liked Rue to their girlfriend Jules. But I kept thinking something just doesn't feel right.

Why would he say that to Jules knowing for one that she is Rue's girlfriend. And for two knowing that Jules was suspicious of him liking Rue in the beginning? Is he just really chill like that? Then why would he say that he liked Rue just to end up flirting with Jules? That doesn't seem very chill, seems problematic. But is he just doing this because he's realizing he can't get Rue to have a serious relationship with him? Maybe he thought;"well then Jules is the next best thing if I can't get Rue's attention". Which would explain why he was so chill About Jules wanting to makeout with him only because she felt lonely and rejected from Rue. In a way it seems like , he's just as sad as Jules about Rue's lack of attention towards the people she claims to love, but also it seems like he wanted Rue to himself. Which is problem because Rue and Jules just got back together. In my opinion Rue should have stopped doing drugs, and then lying about it, for Jules before they got back together.

But maybe introducing Elliot to the season is the Sam Levinson's way of saying the real world will leave Rue behind if they don't give up their fantasy world, the world Rue enters when Rue's high. So I believe Elliot is meant to be a disruptor in their relationship. I just think that's a problem because it could possibly end because Jules cheated on Rue, there could possibly be no way for Rue and Jules to come back and rekindle their love when Rue finally gets their shit together. Especially since they both are super poisonous for one another. Because of the lies and secrets that keep building up, and things they, have said or done that has hurt the other person in the relationship.

At the end of the day there's no one we can truly blame for the reason why Rue and Jules' relationship is so toxic, but Rue and Jules. Nevertheless like I said in the beginning, no one is innocent. Which means everyone in the series is the blame for something even if it's small. Yes Rue needs to do better, which is the reason the fourth episode is called " For all you who can not see, think of those who can". It's like Sam Levinson's way of saying these characters are blinded by their own pain and lose, that they have lost compassion of others who aren't blinded. However there is a reason the character Elliot was added to the show this season. For now we'll just have to wait and see just how much of an issue this new character will be individually.
