The first episode of Duty After School opens with some high school kids enjoying football while others are doing their homework. The youngsters attend Sungjin High School. We run into Kim Chi-yeol and Kim Deok-joong after class, who are talking about the odd, extraterrestrial orbs that had been in the sky for almost a year. Deok-joong remarks that he was expecting horrible things to happen when the spheres first emerged, but Chi-yeol counters that nothing ever changes for high school kids.

Chi-yeol tries to talk to Yeong-hoon, the top student at the school who endures a lot of bullying but is still strong, as they leave. Sadly, Yeong-hoon dismisses him and boarded the bus to his house. He watches a YouTube video on spheres and the myths around them while he travels.

Yeong-hoon continues to ignore Chi-yeol and Deok-joong when they later run into each other in a game café. Chi-yeol and Deok-joong converse about their chances of getting into college while enjoying their game.

The military is getting ready to examine a sphere that fell that morning at another location. Lee Choon-Ho, one of the existing troops, is there. As soon as their company commander Choi Yong-sik shows there, he becomes enraged and fires at the sphere, but the shots miss the object. When they switched to a panzer, the sphere didn't break, and chaos ensued.

Four weeks later, the children return to school as usual and continue their shenanigans and friendly competition. Yeon Bo-Ra, who is abusing No Ae-Seol, approaches us. Additionally, Yeong-hoon is being bullied by Kwon Il-Ha. Park Eun-young, their homeroom teacher, hands them their report card before being called away. She returns, appearing nervous, and announces the cancellation of early admissions to institutions. The class's top pupils are perplexed and concerned, while the rest are content and relieved.

The kids continue to mutter among themselves and ignore the teacher while she speaks. They watch the Defense Minister's speech to the country on TV when she turns it on in the classroom. The minister explains that even third-grade high school kids are required to be conscripted due to a national mobilization that the government has ordered. The implications for the pupils' present and future stun them. He continues by saying that extra credit would be given to the pupils for college entrance while still placing a high priority on education.

The instructor switches off the television and tells the students to be calm; she is unsure of the answers, but they will learn them in due course. She provides the students with military consent papers and requests that their parents sign them. The instructor makes it clear that the only pupils who participate in the training will receive extra credit.

Following the teacher's departure, a brawl breaks out between Kwon Il-Ha and Yeong-hoon. Additionally, the military shows up to the school and begins making preparations. Later, Yeong-hoon pushes Chi-Yeol away as he checks on him.

After some debate, most parents sign the consent documents that the kids later bring home from school. Each student made the decision to enroll in the program for a different reason, some of which were parental pressure. Others voluntarily because they wanted the bonus points or to avoid being bored at home.

They happily make fun of one another when they get to school the following morning. They packed their favorite items, their cosmetics, and other items they believed to be necessities. First Lieutenant Lee Choon-ho, who will command Class 3-2 platoon, is shortly introduced to the class by the instructor.

He names the class leader as a senior trainee and indicates that training would take place after normal lessons. After Yeong-hoon rejected, he also asks Chi-Yeol to be in charge of filming films for their parents. Despite Chi-Yeol's lack of motivation, Lieutenant Lee tells him he will receive three points. The CSAT extra credit system has a distinct reward point system, which he also mentions. Ten reward points equal one CSAT extra credit, while 30 demerits result in discharge.

The students are told to report to their barracks, but they don't understand what he means. It comes out that the school was altered to resemble a military station. The students proceed to the barracks while acting amicably and typically being unaware of the danger waiting for them. In their barracks, the male students are greeted by soldier Kim Won-Bin. They are instructed by Lieutenant Lee to hastily unpack before meeting at the field for individual guns handling.

When the girls arrive at the barracks, soldier Seo Ja-yoon promptly gives them the order to remove their unnecessary belongings, including their makeup. Park So-yoon and Hong Joon-hee began debating whether to revoke their consent agreement at this time.

On the pitch, Chi-Yeol makes amends with Yeong-hoon by giving him the post of record keeper. Yeong-hoon is adamant about keeping up his schooling, but Kwon Il-ha interrupts and urges Chi-Yeol maintain the job. Some of the pupils inquire as to why they are being trusted with weaponry after the troops hand them guns.

Others attempt to exploit their knowledge playing online games to seem cool, and they quickly begin fiddling with weapons. Because he is only 21 years old, soldier Kim Won-Bin gets insulted when they call him an ajhussi while he attempts to stop them.

Soon Once they arrive, Lieutenant Lee and Soldier Seo Ja-yoon organize the children. They are lectured by Lieutenant Lee on the importance of maintaining their firearms because they are their sole source of safety in times of conflict. He forces the youngsters to run until they are about to collapse from weariness. Even today, female student Cha So-yeon is seduced by Lieutenant Lee.

The young people return to their barracks and mourn their misfortune while griping about how difficult the training was. Some feel cheated when they leave messages for their parents. Others can only weep for their mother and for So-yeon, whose love has made her believe she can endure. Student No Ae-Seol, who cares for her grandma and tells her to take her medicine, is the last person mentioned.

The boys later witness a video of military men firing at something that was released, and they begin to question why the military is murdering animals. They naturally begin to speculate that war is starting, and Kim Deok-Joong expresses his humorous notion.

Lieutenant Lee stops the youths as they begin to mock-punch him. Yeong-hoon attempts to escape, but Lieutenant Lee cautions him that such behavior is not permitted. When Yeong-hoon discovers that Kwon Il-Ha has a phone, he becomes enraged.

Kwon Il-Ha tries to create a fight with Yeong-hoon when the phone is seized. As a result, Lieutenant Lee is compelled to summon them outside and assign them a task. They have another disagreement while doing the errand, and Chi-yeol attempts to break them up.

A spherical falls from the sky while they converse. The three lads are enthralled to view it up close, and Kwon Il-Ha is irate because his phone was stolen and he can't post a picture because of it. Yeong-hoon and this leads to another altercation.

Yeong-hoon is pushed towards the sphere by Kwon Il-ha when it suddenly expands and ensnares Yeong-hoon with its tentacles. The other lads remain glued to the place in terror as he attempts to fend it off but is devoured whole.

Yeong-hoon's video message is recorded as the show comes to a close. He and Chi-yeol, friends from childhood, spoke fondly about the moments they spent playing games online. They state they'll play games following the CSAT.
