We’re only driving to Aspen. What’s the worst that could happen?

25 years ago, Dumb and Dumber was released to theaters. In hopes that they’ll find the woman who left her briefcase in their airport, Harry and Lloyd travel to Aspen. Not the brightest duo, they get themselves into strange situations, unbeknownst that they’re being followed.

Dumb and Dumber changed the world of comedy. The first time my family and I watched this film, we howled in laughter. If I ever need a good laugh, I look up clips to this movie on Youtube. Most audiences would label Dumb and Dumber as a nonsensical comedy, but it is more than that.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels made the ultimate comedic duo. They sold their chaotic friendship as Harry and Lloyd. What I loved about their friendship was that it was genuine. Each getting the right screen-time, lines, and gags, their performances are forever memorable.

Their roles were actually supposed to be reversed. The duo was incredible delivering chaos on this wild adventure. I was surprised at how well they did in a dramatic sequence, pinning how close they are as friends.

Did you know that Carrey actually asked his dentist to remove a cap just so he could appear more deranged as Lloyd? He even did it again years later for the sequel.

Daniels was told that if he participated in this film, it would end his career. It turns out, Dumb and Dumber is the most successful! Thankfully, it exhibited a side of Daniels that he may never have had the chance to showcase without this film.

Lauren Holly had an interesting role in Dumb and Dumber. Her performance is mostly about her reactions - which is the best part. She had a fun time sharing the screen with both Carrey and Daniels.

A lot of memorable characters appeared on the screen. No part is ever small. The ensemble had the opportunity to manifest off of Carrey and Daniels’s exotic personalities. Mike Starr (Joe Manentalino) will forever be remembered for putting up with Harry and Lloyd during a memorable car ride.

Other credits include Karen Duffy, Charles Rocket, Brady Bluhm, Cam Neely, Rob Moran, Victoria Rowell, and several more small roles that would not make Dumb and Dumber the same if they weren’t in it.

Off-topic, but do you want to know what character should have come back for the sequel in 2014? Connie Sawyer played the old woman whom Lloyd asks to watch his belongings when he leaves. Because Sawyer was still alive during the making of the sequel, it would have been a funny moment to a humorous joke if she appeared.

Travel movies are my favorite. Harry and Lloyd show audiences that anybody can take an adventure. Writers had a fun time coming up with scenarios for this film. The dialogue is actually written very well. Dumb and Dumber will never get old. I always watch it when it’s on.

Nothing feels forced. You bet that Carrey and Daniels improvised. Remember when Lloyd shouted ‘We’ve landed on the moon?’ That was improvised on the spot. This line along with the most annoying sound in the world are only two of several popular moments.

Unlike how some comedy films try too hard nowadays, the comedy in Dumb and Dumber comes off naturally. Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly instituted the best ideas and the right direction in this unforgettable comedy.

You have to watch Dumb and Dumber if you have not seen it. Don’t expect too much, and just laugh, and enjoy. You never know, it may become your new favorite movie.
